ok so currently the timings I got is 3.0/3/3/5 anything lower for the first 3 the comp won't boot. I don't really get the entire timing thing all I understand is that the lower it is the faster the mem. Also that CAS latency supposedly doesn't matter for the AMD 64 line of chips, anyway that's what I've read. Now I'm seeing some people have that last number from 5-11 etc. I was just wondering what I should do to find out the best timings for mine

thanks

Run CPU-Z, take a screenshot of the memory screen & post it, so we know what you're talking about.

512 MB 3200 DDR (running at 450 mhz) can run stabily at 500 mhz

Sounds pretty good for no-name memory, I don't think you'll be getting much better than 3-3-3

yeah i was actually quite suprised at the level of overclocking this mem can handle. I joined the forums a few days ago and from what I've been reading even some high performance mem can't handle 500 mhz. So I should leave it at 3-3-3-10 instead of what I have now which is 3-3-3-5? cause I had actually ran it at this based on another thread I was reading and I just found that the comp was going slower, basically if I leave everything to Auto it has these 3-4-4-8 would this be better?? anyway thanks for anyone who can explain this to me. Also another quick question any of you all know if Hypertransport will affect my performance greatly because if I want mem to go to 500 mhz, (gettin a new fan the zalman 7000aCU) I need to turn up the fsb which I then have to decrease the HT multiplier from 4 to 3 and I think I get about 760 something HT. Anybody know anything about this?

thanks

and this is the screenshot

Yes, you should increase the tRAS.

Setting it below CAS + RAS to CAS will make the system able to interrupt a transfer before it's had a chance finishe the latency cycles. For 3-3-x tRAS should be at least 7 or higher. I think you'll find your memory bandwidth benchmarks significantly better at 7-10 than at 5.

k so i did it at 10 then 8 then went down to 7 I don't know if its just me probably in my mind or somethin but I'm finding the entire thing slower and at 10 i'm finding it alot slower. Now i haven't checked performance in games but taht's really all i'm worried about so if someone could get back to me on this thanks

AnandTech recommends just using a Tras of 10 for all A64 boards, and I haven't seen that wisdom refuted yet - so maybe you should just leave it at 10.

BTW can you take a pic of this RAM? or least tell us what the markings on the chips are.

Another thing... the most important memory timing for A64's seems to be CMD -- 1T vs 2T. big difference. go for 1T.
