No mouse acceleration in XP?

After installation of XP I got an upleasant surprise. My mouse cursor became very slow compared to Win2k. No problem, just increase acceleration. I went to Mouse applet in Control Panel, but much to my surprise, there was no acceleration slider there! I'm using Kensington Expert Mouse trackball and run dual monitors at high resolutions. In win2k I can move mouse cursor from upper left to lower right accross both monitors in one ball turn. In XP as it is right now, it takes 6 turns. Yes, I tried checking/upchecking "enhance pointer precision" box below pointer speed slider, it doesn't make any noticable difference.

The only idea I have is that my current mouse driver in XP may not support acceleration. Since MS didn't include drivers for my(pretty popular) trackball, it's installed as "Microsoft mouse", which worked just fine in win2k for a while.

I'm very pissed at MS (for the Nth time), but also curious to almost the same degree. I can't believe they screwed up SO badly. BTW, search on google, anand forums and MS support didn't turn any helpful hints. It's amazing that such seemingly small annoyance virtually prevents me from even trying, much less using this OS.

Is there a third party utility that would allow me to set acceleration to acceptable level?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Did you try the Kensington Drivers, from their web site?

Most Win2000 drivers will work with XP.
