What's funny is that they assume that removing that one category will eliminate prostitution ads. Hmm, maybe they'll move to another category and just post there? Like the Personal ads?

If it's the oldest profession in the world, it has somehow managed to avoid all law enforcement attempts to quash it.

So, some guy used Craigslist to meet some women who were prostitutes, and he ended up killing one. Does that mean they'll ban cars next because guys find prostitutes that way? 😉

No doubt. It's about as retarded and dangerous as keeping drugs illegal.

It's about time people pulled their Puritan heads out of their asses and made prostitution legal and regulated so that it's safer for everyone involved.

The problem is that prostitution is an easy target for politicians and law enforcement officials to point at and be able to say "I'm doing something about crime and about morality".

IMO anything between consenting adults should be legal. Even business transactions.

Agree 100%

If I could find the story you would read that some guy met another on craigslist or something and drugged himself up... cut off his dick and the two ate it... Then the guy died.

I don't think everything should be legal between consenting adults.

Making drugs legal is not going to somehow cure all the problems...

Actually, I don't really have a problem with that, so long as both parties are fully capable of consent.

 That's a pretty rare scenario you have to admit. And anyways, I don't know that he would be able to give consent if he was drugged up. Still, if he really chooses that, I don't mind, as long as both parties consent.

You're not going to solve all problems through legalization, but trust me, when you eliminate the black market and open it up to regulation, people still get the sex they want and prostitutes still make money, but their working conditions are safer. It's a win-win.

Same holds true for drug legalization - eliminate the black market and still supply the demand, but conditions are safer. Plus, since addiction is no longer criminalized, you can actually help drug users get treatment rather than forcing them to hide from arrest and incarceration.

Go read the thread about Portugal's legalization project in OT - it worked very well.

I always thought it was interesting that Craiglist had a section that was obviously about prostitution.

Dude...they aren't prostitutes. You are just paying them to hang out and play video games. If she happens to like you as a person and you have sex then that's her choice. Also, sometimes you don't even have to pay cash. Just get like 250 roses and you're in!!!

Bah, Philip Markoff.. Who does he think he is, Jack the ripper.

I'm so sick of ONE person ruining things for everyone.

er um.. not that I was heavily into hobbying 😱

This guy should be executed simply for inconveniencing so many people. Same thing goes for that shoe bomber guy.

I once had a lady come over from Craigslist. When she walked in, she zigzaged all over the place, she kept spouting off about random subjects, she started writing unintelligible scribbles on the walls, then she started throwing fruit from a filled garbage can she brought with her at me.

Turns out I accidentally replied to an ad for erratic services.

BOSTON (Reuters) - Online classified site Craigslist will replace its "erotic services" ads with a new adult category following pressure by state authorities after the murder of a masseuse who advertised on the site.

Right, because no one has ever killed a hooker before craigslist. 😕

it's practially a right of passage into manhood!

Someone was killed. The people of the USA, bless their black flabby little hearts, expect government to do something about it. So something was done.

I've never been able to figure out why we expect the government to do something, and after decades of them never getting anything right, why we still go back to that same dry well.

Of course! 99% of all proceeds go to her "boyfriend" and his "My Escalade Needs New Spinners" fund. The other 1% goes to his "Stitch the Bitch Up After She Makes Me Pop Her in the Mouth For Holding Out On Me" fund.

There used to be, near my friend's house, a purple van with meth addicts living out of it. A prank call we did a few times in high school was to put a prostitute ad up and have them meet the imaginary prostitute at the corner where the van was parked. Then we'd tell them to come meet us in the van. Most people drove away but one time we got the guy to knock on the door of the van. The meth addicts took a few minutes to open up the back doors and start yelling at the guy a bunch of jibberish. He staggered backwards and then turned around and ran back to his truck and drove off.

hell... there have been escort ads in phone books as long as there have been phone books. Why are people so schocked by craigslist?
