No more northbridge, why MB price does not go down?

Without the need of a northbridge on the MB it creates the need for more complicated traces between the layers of the pcb which in turn offsets the price savings from the missing northbridge....Well at least that's what I'd tell you if I worked for any of the MB manufacturers. 🙂

Costs to make motherboards have gradually been going up. Chinese workers want to be paid more so they can enjoy a better lifestyle. In the 1990s, it was typical to pay $150-$200 for a desktop board, so its quite astonishing, with all the inflation over the past 10-15 years, to be paying less thahn that today for a desktop board.

Considering inflation, I believe the relative price of most MOBOs have gone down..

You certainly get more features and reliability for your money.

Intel sets market prices for their chipset, whether it is physically two chips or one.

Because youre used to it.

Wait until you are no longer able to buy a motherboard in full one time, but have to "subscribe" to one for a never ending monthly fee that can't ever be paid off. Everything these days it's about selling repackaged garbage or adding new monthly fees for stuff that was always there and hooking people for a never ending revenue stream, I imagine it's only a matter of time before every industry find a way to hook a ball and chain to you. Its the new get rich quick scheme of American capitalism.

Gaming and cell phones are the prime examples. It's all about nickle and diming you on mandatory services and content fees or consumables now rather than buying a product that you can hold in your hand forever. Ink jet printers are given away free, think about that.

Pretty soon the radio in your car won't turn on unless you subscribe to a service with monthly billing.. oh wait it already has... maybe you'll start having to pay monthly fees for use of the back seat next... $30 a month to sit on the car, additional $20 a month on top of that if you want to use the back seat or have more than 1 person.

So yeah, motherboards aren't so bad anymore are they 😉 Cry when you have to pay $15 a month to Asus to be allowed into the BIOS and get your cpu underclocked when your bill is late

Over here locally electronics are getting cheaper while the usual housing and essentials had gone crazily up. 20 years ago apartment prices are only a $100k and by 2010 they are approaching $1 million and still climbing while income surely didn't rose by a good 1000% to compensate.

What's next someone's going to bottle water (a free commoditiy) and charge you for it. ha ha that will never happen......

I was just looking at 1155 boards, and I notice there's not one that I could overclock with (P or Z) for less than $100. The first board I successfully overclocked with was a G31 for ~$50!

the price that went into manufacturing is now going to license the product.

why is software on the cd so expensive when the plastic to make it so cheap?
