No more G4560 CPUs until April 24th? What the?

I'm assuming that this date is an eta from Ingram Micro, one of their up-stream distributors.

So, if Ingram Micro isn't expecting more G4560 CPUs until more than a month later... what's going on at Intel?

Are they intentionally limiting supply? Are these particular CPUs in THAT heavy of demand? (And if so, and production were at normal levels, wouldn't we still see supply of them, only at inflated prices?)

Something just doesn't smell right with this situation.

Edit: Update Mar 23, B&H is saying Apr 7 now, rather than Apr 24. That's certainly an improvement.

Hopefully, the price drops down to MSRP (or below!), once there is a good supply of these in the channel. Even the G4600, the next SKU up in the product stack, is also sold out at B&H. No ETA given for those.

Ah, Pentium G4560, like the good old G3258, it's among the few intel professors whose price tag I can look and not roll my eyes at.
 
All very interesting but sometimes demand is driven by what people talk about. Everyone talks about the G4560 but almost nobody about the $10 more expensive G4600 which is in stock at that vendor. For use without a GPU, HD630 is a huge upgrade from HD610, plus you get another 100MHz (which is nowhere comparable to the graphic difference).

Looks like they slightly mispredicted market demand. A month's lag isn't too bad, considering everything that goes into making a modern CPU- if I remember rightly, it takes weeks for a wafer to go end to end through the fab. And then you have packaging and shipping all around the world.

But you would also need dual channel ram for that and with current prices for fast ddr4 ram it's a no go.

Months. Cycle time is often 3 months+, that's not including packaging & test, as well as shipping.

Except... it's not $10 more expensive. It's $30 more expensive. When the starting point is a G4560 that has gone for $60 on ebay, 50% more expense, for 10% more performance (if that!), is a LOT.

Newegg has it for only $10 more and it's in stock as well.

IGP is one area (arguably the only area that will matter to most users) where Memory Bandwidth++ is noticeably useful.

Dual channel is definitely preferable if you insist on gaming w/ the IGP for some reason.

Well, if you ignore 3rd-party sellers that are gouging (Antonline, G4560 for $79.99), going by Newegg's prices alone (G4560 for $64.99), it's $25 more expensive (G4600 for $89.99).

If you're planning to build a budget gaming rig, and use a dGPU, that's quite a bit more money (in percentage terms), for only 100Mhz more (in CPU terms).
 
Called it. Bloody-well-bleeding called it. And I don't think Intel didn't realize there would be such a rush; rather, I think they know exactly what they've done here (basically released a Haswell or theoretical Broadwell i3 for the price of a Pentium) and have deliberately choked off the supply so as not to cannibalize their market.

That's fine, Intel 🙂 I can get A8-7600s for under $65 now! If you want me to switch entirely to AMD for all my customers, rather than just at the above-$150 price point when the Ryzen R5s and R3s hit, that's on you.

Shop around. Still plenty of places with G4560s in stock.

ST performance still matters, and it matters more for the non-gamers who buy budget rigs. Putting an A8-7600 (or any 'Dozer/'Roller-based CPU) in a new rig today is basically nerd malpractice.

I will be interested to see what AMD comes up with in the <$100 market for Ryzen or Ryzen-derived architectures.
