No more free beer at SeaWorld or Busch Gardens

Busch Entertainment Corp. is about to end of the longest-standing traditions at its theme parks: Free beer sampling.

The company announced this morning that it will close the popular hospitality houses at all of its SeaWorld and Busch Garden parks beginning this month. The facilities will eventually re-open -- without the beer sampling.

In a written statement, Busch didn't offer an explanation for the move. But it said employees at the hospitality centers will remain with the company.

Busch said the Busch Gardens hospitality house in Tampa will close "briefly" at the end of January and re-open with a new "cafe-style menu." The SeaWorld Orlando hospitality house will close for a longer stretch as of Feb. 1 and will ultimately be converted into a new restaurant.

UPDATE: A spokeswoman says Busch is recasting the hospitality centers in order to "expand the facilities' appeal across age groups."

UPDATE: Just to clarify, Busch says the parks will still sell beer -- just no free samples.

Damn, I loooove Busch Gardens Williamsburg, even though last time I went was before I was old enough to drink. Hell, I didn't even know this existed before now and I'm still sad 🙁

Was there any good beer involved or was it typical Busch swill?

They just lost a long time customer! :|

Tell me about it. I just called and told one of the people I was going to Busch Gardens with about the no free beer anymore and he said, "we're not going" :Q

It was typical Busch swill, but you're missing the important point. It was free Busch swill. And even more importantly it was free Busch swill doled out in mass quantities.

It was a 50 year tradition too.

AB distributes Czechvar? Considering the storied history between the two, that's very surprising.

They really limited how much beer you could get last time I was at Busch Garden's in Tampa FL. This was 7 or so years ago even.

Been 7 or 8 years for me too. I don't recall massive quantities of beer.

word. every time I even see the word "Czechvar" I get all :|

what a crock of shite. i guarantee that "48.8%" of whatever is attributed to 2, maybe 3 beers that they produce. The rest is rarely seen, and I call shens on them having anything to do with the majority of those outside of distribution.

Oh man, this is gonna be even worse for idiots that come to the AB park I work at over the summer. You'd be surprised how many people come and ask me where they can find beer. It's a CHILDREN'S park, based around SESAME STREET. Dear Lord.

The only way I can survive those places with my little ones is massive amounts of things like beer.

Actually you would be wrong. The sole reason why AB was bought by InBev was so InBev could produce and distribute its beers with AB breweries and distribution networks. InBev owns all those beers in question and thus AB is now responsible for them in the US.
