Bwuahahaha. what quality? and the only "feel" you are going to get from an american car is the feeling that it could stall any second now.

I've had a forced induction unit and been racing my daily driver at the track, and I'm on 30K miles now and I have no problems. Runs as smooth as the day I got it.

Well to be perfectly honest ViperGTS, big manufacturers made virtually nothing out of small runs of cars like the Viper. Unless they start up a boutique arm to make these small runs, it makes no economic sense for them to continue make such cars unless they can intergrate standard drive-train coponents, chassis, running gear under the fancy skin (like the Audi TT which is basically a turbo A4 {edit:I mean A3, afterall it has an east-west engine} quattro under a new skin).

Who knows maybe Chrysler will become the Mercedes 'pickup'

Its call badge engineering, welcome to the 21st Century:(

I hope this isn't true, I like Chrysler. They have been one of the few automakers to take real design chances lately. Look at when they redesigned the front of the Ram truck, now you have ford with almost the same look. They actually produced the Viper, and Prowler, two designs that most car companies would never have let make it past the concept stage. Then they took a chance with the PT Cruiser and have a runaway hit. My parents just bought a PT Cruiser after trading in their Dodge Dakota Sport, I love it.

(note: Chrysler would not actually build any compact cars, but would re-label Mitsubishis and Hyundais).

So Daimler Bentz is returning Chrysler to the strategy it used during the '80s. ;) Anybody else remember the Colt? It had that nice little tag on the back that said "Imported for Dodge". Chrysler has a history of missing small-but-important details, such as radio buttons which fall off and manual window lift handles which pull out of the doors (a friend of mine has a '90 Shadow with both problems) but at least they almost always run. As my mechanic said, when in perfect tune they sound like they need a re-build, but there's almost nothing you can do to make them stop running. That said, good riddance. Willey's Overland was much better before Chrysler took over. Glad to see the Germans are improving things.

BoberFett - Go right ahead:p

<< like the Audi TT which is basically a turbo A4 quattro under a new skin >>

WTH?? The Audi TT is based on the same platform as the VW New Beetle, Golf, and Audi A3. Nothing in common with the A4 but the engine.

Zemner - I've never seen either of the symptoms you mentioned. As for the engines - you're right, they're practically indestructible. As for the sound, I think the 2.2's / 2.5's sound great :p

I drive a 96 Concorde LXi with the 3.5L V6, and 65K miles on it. The only repair I've had done so far was to replace the A/C compressor. Last I checked, the trim hasn't fallen apart yet. If you're going to use the far past as an indicator of product quality, why not look at Japanese cars that way? Remember early 80s Hondas and Toyotas? What pieces of smelly sh!t those were.

Let's stick with the here and now.

I'm wondering if the value of my CSX will go up? Doubt it - but do you think there would be a chance if Mopar did go down? That would probably be the only upside to this whole thing :|

That's ok, only Democrats bought them anyway. ;)

I used to hear my dad drive thru the neighborhood and say "Dodge there, yep definitely a Democrat". LOL

Actually NFS4, its pretty obvious that was a typo & I meant A3, afterall its got an East/west engine not a north/south engine.

Well, at least these european bitches can make reliable cars with high quality materials and engines that don't take as much as US ones...

Hey, maybe that's my Christmas present ???

Compare an VW Passat to the now defunct Oldsmobile Intrigue valued at the same price and you tell me which one is the nicer car...and still in production ;)

Allpar.com is a cool site, Dr. Zatz is a super nice guy, but it still doesn't carry the reputation of car-truck for me. I'd like to see links to the Reuters articles and such though. The germans will be the downfall of chrysler which is a real shame, they've done such innovative design in recent years, often spurring changes for the rest of the industry with the ram trucks, new design for sedans, etc. Wonderful cars and I'll truly hate to see them go if it happens. I also fear what this would do to the "jeep" line. No mercedes luxury suv will be able to beat the ability of a jeep.... *snif snif*

ok...how bout a Fix Or Recall Daily Taurus?

My point is that there are german cars within 5k of most midsize domestic sedans that offer superior quality, warranties, and options.

Or, you can buy a 2 year old used german sedan for the same price as your new domestics, and still get a longer warranty than the new domestics.

It is possible to buy german for considerably less than 2x-3x the price of a domestic.
