So the real question is what filtering is installed on the planet and animal naming feature? When I get it on a sale 6 months from now will I be jumping through an unending stream of planets named donger prime and vagoo clito alpha?

Surprisingly Redbox doesnt have it and they aren't sure when it will be available.

Can't say it's that surprising. Redbox has never seemed to keep up on games like they do with movies.

Anyway I've pretty much been playing for 4 hours straight, and I already am up too late so need to quit... But I'd probably keep playing if it wasn't late. I'll post specifics tomorrow but there's certainly enough to like, at least in the short term

They do get on the hype train for the call of duty games and other tripple A titles. Looking forward to see what you thought of the game so far.

haven't really been paying attention to the game, but WTF is going on.

The devs say it's impossible to find other people yet say there is no multiplayer and it's already been shown that people can find other peoples discovered planets but cannot find one another in game even if they are in the same spot.

Plus what do you think will happen when people can rename everything like this? ;)

Looks like I was pretty much spot on with my predictions for this game. I've seen spore 2.0 all over the place which isn't that surprising.

As for those worried about finding loads of planets named after rude things, I wouldn't worry, it looks an awful lot like the random space the game exists in is so huge that actually running into other people is something extremely unlikely, this was easy to predict because you can't have randomly generated terrain and then dump multiplayer in and have different people smash it up differently and all that data be stored persistently somewhere, it's the exact same reason the planet resets to how it was before you visited after you've flown away, nothing is persistent apart from names given to planets and creatures, most of which you'll never see, just your own stuff.

The idea that it's multiplayer in any significant way is a complete deception by the developers.

I watched a couple streams of the game on Twitch, doesn't really seem like a game I would play beyond a couple days at most. Also from what I've read on reddit, Dev tweets etc, it seems they've been deliberately hinting about some features that the game obviously doesn't have but to increase sales, they've been pretty vague about such things as multiplayer. Definitely not worth the 80$CAD to me.

I have seen some speculation that the completely missing multiplayer may actually be a limitation of the PS4 system. We know it handles multiplayer different than PCs can and the dev has previously said there are things they cannot say about the PS4 version due to agreements with Sony. I guess we will find out if there is a difference in the PC version.

That being said the complete lack of multiplayer is a huge bonus for me so it actually makes me more interested in the game.

I hope this is it, because the PS4 has absolutely zero multiplayer and the developer has refused to set the record straight. Also, the spawn system has to be borked, as people are finding each other very easily.

Exactly, no form of multiplayer is a slap in the face to all those paying full price. I seriously doubt there is enough SP content to make it worth that price.

By the way they are getting killed in the steam reviews, 70% negative reviews already.

You know what the best part is? They delayed the release of the game and it still runs like crap, just check out all the performance issues currently going on.

I'm a little disconcerted by the notion of people reaching the center so quickly. I mean, they literally designed a galaxy worth of 'content' (boring though it may be) yet the game design is such that it can be cleared in under a week? If it took long enough to simply require weeks to do it would at least make the game noteworthy, but a dearth of decent content plus a quick clearing? Seems kinda fail. I was looking forward to this, too.

What AT Member wrote this steam review

You're severly wrong about the minimum system requirements, replace them with this-

Mimimun-
A computer made by jesus christ himself but it'll still struggle to hit 20 fps

I was kind of interested in this game but the super secrecy turned me off. I've learned no video's or game play talk usually means a bad thing.

I have no problem running it at 4k and 60FPS (DSR'd down to 1080). I've got a couple hours into it now and love it. I have no idea where the time went but this game just soaks it up.

The first hour is tough, for sure. No tutorial and having to learn how to survive. I wish I had been able to keep my starting planet, but after changing some settings it had me restart and I didn't realize I hadn't saved yet. The original planet was a bit cool, but pretty lush flora and fauna. However, the planet I really ended up starting on was a bit barren in comparison, but still beautiful. God this game is beautiful. Lots of time to be spent here.

The only reports of getting to the center that I'm aware of are before they increased the size with the zero day patch. Those were only pre-release copies and aren't representative of the game we're playing now.

Steam reviews are horrible. "Everyone" is basically saying it crashes and FPS are horrible, even on high-end systems. I am sooooooooooooooo on the fence...

I experienced none of those issues. I recorded every last bit of it and it's uploading now (I want an online log for myself) which I can post here. Even if there was some epidemic on PC, HG has shown themselves committed to the title and agile enough to push changes to PC quickly.

Just wait. The game will get much cheaper and hopefully much better.

My rule is to always wait for the first major patch at least or a sale if its a bit expensive. If it sucks you'll know and you'll dodge most of the major issues.

I think it's important to remember this is a small studio that was originally making a PS4 exclusive that was likely under heavy pressure from Sony to get this pushed out. I'd give it some time for a patch.

GOG reviews are not real good either at present . . .

From reading some comments of various forums, it sounds like there is a serious Memory leak for one, and it also sounds like an/some install issues.

Seems the C++ redist is getting blocked on install a lot of times - AV seems to be blocking it.

The Memory issue pops up for others after they have played awhile performance will drop, but a restart clears it (until another restart is needed).

Yeah, definitely need to wait on Patches before even worrying about anything else on this one right now.

If I'm looking at things correctly, there are/were over 200k users in game just a bit ago . . . wow.

Youtube says 2 hours left for processing my video. :(

It'll be up as soon as possible. Maybe my large amount of memory is what allows me to play for so long? It is a video memory hog in that it was using about 5GB while rendering at 4k.

I'm gonna try and watch it when I'm home. Are you gonna link it here?

I was going to type up some long response, but honestly I don't think that's needed here because it's exactly what most reviews have said.

Here's the breakdown based on my first 4 hours:
  • It's almost exactly what I thought it would be. I have no idea what people were expecting, but I don't blame the developer for some of the disappointment as I'm getting almost everything I thought I would based on all the videos I saw.
  • Visuals are a let-down (on the ps4 at least). Texture pop-in is quite distracting when flying, and animations aren't great. I hope the draw distance is better on the PC.
  • The FPS mechanics are clunky, but that might just be me not playing many FPS on the PS4. Again, probably better on PC and there's not much in the way of shooting (yet)
  • The first few hours are basically a loose tutorial that introduces you to the game mechanics without actually feeling like a tutorial. It was really well done and something that fits really well with this type of game.
  • I can see that after getting through the mechanics, and playing for a while, that things may get repetitive... so many out there are going to be bored after a few ours, but some of us will still get a lot of gameplay out of it.
So I know it's going to sound crazy, but for me the game it reminds me most of right now is Just Cause 2. Is it the same genre? Nope. Does it have cool explosions? Not really. So what in the hell do I mean by that?

Pretty much every single bad thing you can say about NMS was also true about JC2. JC2 had next to no campaign, it was incredibly shallow. You visited copy/pasted bases that were pretty easily dealt with. There were bases you could destroy everything in, which could be fun but also was very repetitive. Despite all of this "shallowness" I dumped more hours in JC2 just messing around than any other game during the 360 generation. The map was huge, and even though everything I did was very repetitive I was never really bored. I get the same sense out of NMS, if to a lesser degree. I can understand people finding it boring, and I myself will get bored of it some day, but right now I think most people that don't like just don't like a game that throws a handful of mechanics at you and gives you the freedom to do what you want.

The ONLY thing that's really holding me back from recommending it fully is not having a f'ing map. It's so easy to get lost in caves and there's no good way to find your way out. A diablo style mini-map that fills in as you visit things (you know, like an actual explorer would do) would have been perfect. I'm so mad that such a simple omission might potentially ruin the experience for a lot of people, but it really needs to be highlighted. You WILL be pissed off that there's no map, and it's a damn shame.

Anyway, wait till it's cheaper but I wouldn't discount it completely.
