I can't get over 1500fsb, I've tried just about everything i can think of.

Striker Extreme
Q6600
Patriot 800 ram
all other stuff is great quality

if i go to 1500 it will crash shortly after post. I've tried upping all (NB,SB,VTT,1.2) the volts even the vcore to 1.62 but still nothing.

I've tried upping the fsb / mem sync (unlinked) speeds slowly and not in even amount from 1500 to 1700 but nothing. I did get a few boots here and there but now nothings working. it also rarely posted at 1700 (425)
If i got to 1800fsb 8x multi it posts but crashes after win bootup. Mem is relaxed, I've read similar post where ppl have gotten to 3.6 with lesser setting but nothing here.

I think there maybe a mem hole from about 1500 (375) to maybe 1600 (400) or so. . tried unlinking the mem and running it under 375 with cpu over 1500 and it will post but then die.

Also running at 3.3 it doesn't take much voltage compared to the stuff I'm giving it just to see a post above it

Don't know what else i can try? that's pretty much everything isn't it?

No need for 1066 memory IMHO. I think many people expect too much from their Q6600's. With DDR2-800 ram, you should be able to reach a max OC of 3.6GHz IF your CPU can get there.

Have you read the overclocking guide yet?

Q6600 SLACR
With a max multiplier of 9 and a quad FSB of 1600 (400FSB actual) you would be at 3.6GHz. Your Patriot ram should have no problems getting there since it's rated at DDR2-800 (400FSB actual x 2), however, I believe your CPU may not. Try following the overclocking guide and see where you get.

Maybe i should of mentioned my ram,

Its 4GB of 800 Patriot Extended Latency, it cost me heaps so i really like it but today it prob wouldn't be worth much so if 1066 will get me there i'll grab some

I read a review on my ram sister the 4gb with normal latency's and they only got up to 880 oc so it could be this thats holding me back. since at 850 it start to sort of work again but still this is just guessing

I just tried something now, set all my ram setting to low, i did this before but just for the major settings, this time i set them all to low and its in vista @ 1770. its at 3.83 So frakking good.

I'll do a quick test...

Already crashed 2s in BSOD PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

If it is my cpu them would setting the ram to stable - unlinked and just ocing the cpu further tell me this. because i did that and it didn't work. Or does syncing the ram/cpu also make a big difference in stabilizing it?

I just really want to hit 3.6g

Also thanks to both for the quick replys, i've been up all night restarting this this.

EDIT: Just tried for 1550 / 700 unlinked and it crashed so is it safe to say i've reached my cpu limit? or could it also be because it not in sync since everyone with strikers say to sync?

I highly doubt it's your ram holding you back. Like I said, your DDR2 ram could theoretically get your chip to 3600 using 400FSB and the 9 multiplier.

Go read the overclocking guide. Try what it suggests and report back to us.

^I agree. Its not the ram. I've seen many Q6600s unable to hit 3.6ghz despite having high perf ram, and seen some that have. Not all Q6600s are created equal. And quads dont have the OC headroom that duals have, so if you do manage 3.6ghz, you've got a nice chip.

I'm at 3.33 at the moment, it did 5.30 hrs of testing and is stable but my temps are pretty high.

setting were:

1.443
mem 2.025 (mem is rated for 2v)
HT 1.50
NB 1.45
SB 1.50
VTT 1.50

Temps 76 some cores sometimes 73cpu 77spp

Cpu was rated 3.5v max

I'm now stable at 22min with just the vcore lowered (can't remem what,testing..) but its just over 3.5v

it seem stable, and my temps are 67 cores 62cpu but 76spp.

I'm going to try tweak them more after a little more testing at this vcore.

Could someone please tell me what setting relates to the spp?

Also i had to return my 8800gtx a while ago because the screen corrupted so I'm leaving all the pcie mcp setting default. I had them at 1mhz over there defaults last time but I still don't think that was enough to kill the card, i think it was just a bad card. Also i only overclocked to 2.8 last time with settings just above defaults and just hardly used it as a htpc. Now i'm using it as a desktop so i want to get the most out of it.

But if i can get 3.3 stable with some nice temps i'll be happy. My case looks well ventilated so i don't know how the spp is getting so high (case is open atm, maybe that?)

UPDATE: 1hr in and stable @ 1.36 (win), so going to see how low i can make everything.
