What is your definition of sick? I have sinus problems year round. I quite often have a runny or plugged nose. I'm certainly not going to stay home from work with a minor cough either. Now a hacking, rip your throat out cough is a different story. I'm sure as hell not going to go to work if I have the flu though either.

I hate that more than anything and that is what happens at our office. Someone is sick (usually the boss) and she still comes in and then everyone else gets sick afterwards
Problem is, you're contagious before you start to show symptoms.

Many illnesses are spreadable a full 24-48 hours before any significant symptoms appear. So they likely have already spread it around before they even know they are sick.
