no internet. cant let that happen again. use phone data to surf?

yesterday out of the blue my internet stopped. had to have a tech for the infrastructure come and do some fixing.

I have no tv. tv is awesome but it made me lazy and not do anything as id just sit on the couch.so no tv and no internet.

anyways, long story short, I wound up using my phone data for internet. and my eyes arent the best so pita.

my question is
what do I need (hardware/software) to connect in my pc, that will allow my pc to use my phone data for surfing JIC?

not worried about my phone data usage. its quite many GB

ah, mr sean connery. alex, ill take swords for 100- "s-words" his laugh is hilarious.

any specific brand you would recommend and what band? theres so many. I have no clue.

Band: whichever matches your hotspot frequency. Just get one that does 2.4 and 5ghz and play it safe.

I'm not sure where you're from, search your vendors of choice for either a pci/pci-e, depending on what expansion slots you have in PC, or a USB pluggable adapter.

Find a couple, and look at reviews

Most android devices can do USB tethering without any special apps or anything else.

Just plug it in, go to your options and enable USB tethering.

my lg v20 does have a tehtering option in settings and I have
-usb tethering but greyed out. i tried connecting it to the pc hoping it might turn it ungrey, but to no avail
-wifihotspot
-bluetooth

yes for 1 pc please.

I see a small 1 inch pci slot available I will use thats next to the northbride.

ok, so I connect the card, then install the software, then activate the phone tethering and have the card find and connect to the phone. then...just open my browser and surf? is it that easy?
thanks for the help guys!

hows this one?

I realize my phone is probably slower then the potential throughput of this but for JIC times...

Did you try enabling USB debugging?
Also i'd try to make sure you have your phone's USB drivers pre-installed on your computer.
Also it may ask you if you want to allow an MTP connection for access to the device so make sure you tap yes.

It's pretty rare these days to see an android phone that wont do USB tethering, unless your carrier has specifically disabled it as sdifox mentioned.
