I've just set up my home network, 1 pc with 2 NIC's (1 for internet and 1 for home network) and 1 pc with 1 NIC (for home network). However, I can't get Internet to work on the client pc, no matter what I do. I used the network wizard to set everything up and my home network works ok (multiplayer LAN games work perfectly, I can ping the the other pc on the both pc's) but Internet on the client didn't work. I've now set everything manually i.e. ip for host NIC is 192.168.0.1 and client NIC is 192.168.0.2 , subnet mask is 255.255.255.0 etc. but it still doesn't work. On the host pc I use a cable connection to connect to the Internet. When I try to surf the Internet with the client pc with IE I get "Internet Explorer could not open the search page".
I am pretty much a complete newbie to networking so all help is welcome. Plz help! TIA.

Thx for the links.
My problem still isn't solved right now though but I'll read more into those links you gave me. It's really strange, every tutorial I read to set up ICS for 2 computers seems very simple but I just can't get it to work. The client just can't get to anything on the internet. Zilch :(
Hmpf this is frustrating... and I haven't a clue what the problem is...

Ok time for an update on the problem.
My network works, and the client kan ping web addresses on the internet ("ping www.anandtech.com" works too, so the DNS thingy is also working), I can chat with ICQ, play online multiplayer on the internet, read usenet stuff... but I can't surf. I've tried MSIE and Mozilla, but neither work. A software issue maybe? The client computer isn't updated with all the patches that Microsoft has released so far, maybe that has something to do with it? Thanks for any further help, we're getting there :)

Yes, DHCP is enabled on the Internet NIC. Any more suggestions? TIA

if PC2 CAN ping addresses, it can access the web. DNS sounds fine, looks to be a software issue (firewall?) try browsing with the IP address. http://216.151.100.123 - Does that work (anandtech.com) If it doesnt, check 'Connections' (Tools>>Internet Options>>Connections tab) and make sure dialup is set to never and underlan uncheck/check each option at a time and trial and error, if no luck its gonna be software issue.

Thank you!
Thank you thank you thank you!

It finally works. I tried browsing the ip address and that didn't work so I figured that I would have to change the settings of IE. In every guide of ICS that I read, they told me to leave those settings alone and to have nothing checked in the "lan settings". Now I fill in my proxy server in there and -> Tadaaaa it works. Frustration gone :):):)

Once again : thanks to everyone who helped me fix this problem!
