no icons in i.e favorites...

For example I added anadtech to my favorites, and a nice icon appeared next to the link name, but after I restarted the system, the icon is gone and there's only the i.e defualt icon, that happens for all other links in favorites as well. Any suggestions? By the way I'm using xp pro sp2. Thanks.

Just one of those stupid things that IE doesn't handle properly. Nothing you can do about it. The icon is just stored like any other Temporary Internet Files cache file, so it can be pushed out of the cache. Funny thing is that IE was the one that started the Favorites Icon thing.

Apparently the only way to work around this is to save a copy of the icon file on your hard drive, and use that file as the icon for the shortcut in your Favorites menu, but you have to do that manually for every site you want to do that with.

Lord Evermore thanks for the reply.

Well, I'm sorry to tell you that FF has the same problem..

First, a program like Favorgwill restore your favicons when WinBlows loses them. Then, a cookie manager like Cookie Wall will set aside your favicons so they don't get trashed.

I have over 1,400 Bookmarks, and a lot of my oldest favicons haven't gotten hosed for more than 2 years.

I find that I really don't particularly care about the icons. I can read. 🙂

1400 bookmarks? How many of those lead to pages that don't exist anymore? I keep a bunch of computer tech "reference" links but damn.

Visuals are nice - even if you can read. 🙂

I would suggest you organize your Favorites, and then create a folder of icons. Then you can assign any icon to any favorite item just by right clicking, properties, and change icon. (FF can't do that!)

This is how I have my Favorites organized, and a major subset is Forums. Each Forum has a special icon. Not that it is necessary, but because it is pleasing to me. 🙂

Well, it's easy on the eyes. Colors are easily changed - that's not the issue. What colors would you like? Focus on the icons - leave my glaucoma and cataracts out of it. 🙂
