I?m very disappointed that F1 will not be in high definition in 2009. Once again it seems Formula One Group?s laughably slow adoption of new technology is to blame.

irony - 3 a (1): incongruity between the actual result of a sequence of events and the normal or expected result (2): an event or result marked by such incongruity b: incongruity between a situation developed in a drama and the accompanying words or actions that is understood by the audience but not by the characters in the play ?called also dramatic irony tragic irony

FOM handles origination of TV images for all races, except Monaco and Singapore. In 2008, Monaco was recognized for their excellent picture quality and camera work for the GP. I'll just mention the terrible mess that is BBC America, and move along. In the US, Fox/Speed receives the international feed and converts it (poorly) to NTSC and 1080i ATSC. Although the 4 races Fox carried on Fox HD looked better, the Monaco GP was the only race with an HD source. If you get a chance to watch it, this is how all car races should be televised!

At the rate they're going, F1 is going to be NASCAR with small engines and no HD. Although I'm not a fan of F1, I can say this: they lost what made them great, and they're losing what makes them good.
