"No Hard Disk Detected" new Intel CPU and mobo build

Starting with the very first power on and every boot since, BIOS reports "Adapter 1- No Hard Disk Detected".
When I enter BIOS the 2 new empty Seagate SATA HDs (0 and 1) show just fine. No RAID. I have the boot sequence set to USB DVD first, which it finds and boots ok for memtest86 and another Boot Cd utility disk.

But Vista Ultimate install immediately ends with "unexpected I/O error...media test failure...check cable...status oxc00000e9, and will not proceed.

This is my first build. What have I done wrong or overlooked or what???
Thanks,
jim

"Adapter 1..." problem was fixed by disabling eSATA in BIOS.

Somehow, by pressing "enter" time and again I finally got Vista installed, the reinstallled to eliminate the nexpected error problem.

All is well now.
