Rob, hehe... I just found this out also as on of our vehicles are running the EMPPPPPPPPTY also... Had to bring out my dads motorcycle to go scouring...

The lines are HUGE.

They were thinking a large amount (in trucks) was coming in tomorrow....

I drove by two 76 stations earlier today here in San Jose, CA and both were out of premium (91) but expected to get some in by tomorrow. :(

In other news, a record number of car explosions/fires have been reported on the highways leading into AZ.

I'm trying to fill up last night and the line was 20 cars long :|

Things are going to get worse before it gets better.
SUV owners are going twitchy now.

Yea well my car required an "international" diehard because of the way the battery posts were. $99 for the battery, $20 for installation and tax.

This is insane, and the governor said it could be like this for up to 60 days. For one single leak. If someone actually blew up one of the pipelines, well, that would be it. All the pumps in Chandler are closed...I have about 1/4 tank and I don't want to leave the house.

Hmmm.... hot, arid climate, with plenty of open space... shortage of gas... anyone else see visions of Mad Max running around in the desert trying to get away from Humungous?

I keep expecting to see someone wearing football shoulder pads covered in turkey feathers driving some sort of sand rail on steroids wielding a club of some sort.

On the evening news the reporter was interviewing people who had literally followed gasoline tanker trucks around town to find and be the first in line for gas! The same reporter related stories of violence over getting gas!

This evening I saw some trophy wife waiting in line behind the wheel of some Ford Behemoth SUV b|tch|ng and moaning about waiting in line to fill up her 15 mpg urban assault vehicle, and I couldn't help but think that if her dumb a55 would have bought a more fuel efficient vehicle she wouldn't have this problem. Not to mention Arizona has had on more than one occasion innovative and efficient mass transit plans up for vote and each time they have been voted down. (I'm excluding the recent approval of light rail because it is nothing more than a token offering to the greener voters)

Today when I took my morning smoke break I noticed that normally crowded parking lot was virtually empty, apparently because there was "no gas", I assumed that people would rather call out for the day/week/month than take the bus or carpool. The company I work for spent a good sum of money developing a web based carpool site that matches users based on location, transportation availability, and even willingness to pay for gas. Out of over 3000 employees at my location just over 30 have signed up. WTF!! Are people really this ignorant and lazy?

I've been riding the bus and carpooling for over two years now and it sucks, but it is not that bad. I pay a portion of the gas cost every month when I carpool or bus fare otherwise and it costs me less per year than driving even with the inconvenience of not having transportation immediately. Do I wish I had a car? Yes. Would I drive it every day? No. Why? The first reason is that it is fiscally irresponsible. The second is that gasoline powered vehicles are not conducive to the environment I want to live in.

If you are dependant on gasoline, consider carpooling. If your state is voting on a mass transit bill, read the facts, educate your self and consider investing in the future - your future.

bananaFish,
well said.

I also can't understand how bad phx metro mass transit system are.
For a city this size, it is absurd that there is no rail system like Chicago, NY or SF.

ahaha yeah i can't believe it happened either, but my friend and i were returning from a trip to good ol' fry's electronics and there was a mob of cars around a gas station... turned out it was the only station in the general area with gas. We really needed to fill up too =/. Eventually the place got shut down be police because the line was becoming a hazard stretching out into the street. I'm amazed that this actually happened considering how dependent we all are on oil. I'm not worried because this situation will probably get rectified quickly, but it does make you reflect on how much influence oil has on all of us.

Don't worry, Bush/Cheney already have a solution: drill ANWR.
