I recently moved back to Georgia after living in Texas for 3 years. Because of the horrid economy I had to get a quick job and Dollar General was hiring. So after getting hired I'm at the front counter ringing people up. This one woman comes in...illegal immigrant up and down, doesn't speak a word of english, didn't understand anything I said, stood there and paid with food stamps.

This isn't the big deal (how did she get them anyways?) but the things is is that her food stamps had $1000 dollars on it!!! YES $1000!!! After paying with food stamps some of the stuff she had wouldn't ring up using her food stamp card so she busts out her EBT card to pay for the rest...guess how much she had on that? $1000 fucking dollars!!!

THAT IS $24,000 A YEAR!!!

I as a full American born tax paying citizen can't even get $150 a month in EBT. How does she get $2000? Thats more than I'm guessing most people make a month.

HOW IS THIS EVEN POSSIBLE THAT SHE CAN DO THIS?! LET ALONE GET AWAY WITH IT???

I don't know, I'm not trying to be a hater, its just completely unfair and unjust in my opinion. Just because she sneaks across the border and pops another little Mexican out (kid that was with her looked about 5 and couldn't speak a word of english) she then gets to stay in our country and live (very well at that) of the money that my taxes pay that I work for.

OK...even then, doesn't make it anymore right...so instead of the lil boy that was with her she has 6 more kids that don't speak english...that's what I want my taxes to go towards.

I hope you know, there are Hispanics in the US legally, and some of them don't speak English. Just like there are Italians and Koreans in the US legally who don't speak English. That you assume this woman is an illegal alien, and that you assume she is Mexican speaks to your prejudice.

I assume you are a single guy. If she has children, it makes sense that she receives more aid. This isn't complicated.

BTW, $24 000 per year is not much at all. That is hard to live on for a single person. For a mother with children, it's really hard. I know I couldn't do it. Her and her children's lives do not sound glamorous to me.

Edit: Most children of immigrants do learn English. Go into any immigrant community, and you'll notice the first generation does not speak much if any English. You can't magically learn a language as an adult. The second and third generations are usually bilingual, and then the native language often dies. That's just how it is.

And even though $24,000 may not be that much...she's still getting it for free because she can't use birth control cause its "against her religion"....I don't feel any sympathy for someone that gets to live off my tax money and can't make her husband pullout.

24,000 dollars a year for doing absolutely jack squat except having sex and popping out babies. Gee Golly, ever stop to think, our great and powerful government, that this is attracting the wrong type of people?

What ever happened to standards? What ever happened to bare minimums? Does America have no pride anymore?

Hey I'm a student and don't get that squat from the government, but if I had a child I could get welfare and have my EFC drop to 0 and get free tuition.

Why do I get punished for being responsible and this lady doesn't? (Don't try and pretend she is legal, because it doesn't matter, either way she is a leech on society.)

A: Not prejudice...I just don't believe that someone should get that much money for doing nothing except for adding to the population.

B: Unplanned pregnancy OFCOURSE I HAVE! BUT NOT 7 OF THEM!

C: I get paid $8.75 an hour and after all the taxes are said and done $110-$120 dollars (about a 6th of my paycheck) taking out for taxes are a big deal. That extra $100 is money that could make difference in my missing some bills to living comfortably...instead that goes to this bitch that gets to sit on her ass all day and do nothing.

Not prejudice I'm just an upstanding citizen that can't stand this kinda harsh treatment from a government that I'm legally part of.

Why don't you have a kid if government assistance is so nice? I'm not "pretending" that she's legal. I'm just not making assumptions. As it turns out, not all Hispanic immigrants are illegal. And as it turns out, most people receiving government assistance are US citizens or legal residents.

These people are pretty smart, they know how to work the system. I'm not proud to admit some of my distant relatives take great advantage of the welfare system, while they do some "business" on the sides, without paying any tax.

The same thing the OP witnessed today, I saw in spades in NYC back in the 1980's. Thousands of ILLEGAL, and I know they were illegal b/c they were PROUD to announce it, immigrants having babies for free, living in Section 8 housing and getting foodstamps.

I can remember being at A&P with my mother, putting our generic brand foods on the belt and just a few pounds of meat b/c of the price. We were poor but my parents had pride. Meanwhile ahead of us was Miss immigrant with tens of steaks, Wise Brand potato chips instead of "A&P brand", all the top-shelf stuff, etc. It was disheartening as a child to see that and 30 years later I feel no differently about it. My father worked his menial labor job to feed us and these people didn't work at all and lived like kings. :|

I agree with TruePaige; what happened to standards in this country?

Those children, particularly if they are US citizens like you assert, deserve the same opportunities as the rest of us. They need food, shelter, education, health care (and I also think they deserve to live in a world without prejudice). These things cost money. Someone must pay for them. I've been there, MichaelD.

It stings to be treated like you are in some bizzaro world version of America.

Here I am, paid taxes all my life, contributed to many American owned businesses, driving my American car, holding insurance and registration. Everything in order.

What do I get for it? Nothing. Not a dime when I decided to go back to school, no free health insurance, no walking deductions that the government pays for.

Meanwhile the illegal immigrant gets every single perk reserved for America's poorest all while cheating the system, working under the table many times, and not WANTING to truly be an American.

Sorry everyone, the government can give me jack shit for aid in my life, and take as much money as they can in taxes, but they can't take my situational bitterness.
