"No Drives" found after a new optical drive was installed.

I have had this problem for well over four months at this point and never got around to trying to remedy the issue. The original optical drive died in my Macbook. I purchased a new drive and went about installing it. Taking apart the laptop proved to be a huge pain. Eventually I got the new drive in and everything appeared to work fine. It played DVD's, burned discs, and all was well. Then I put a DVD in the drive (which it accepted) but refuses to play it or eject it.

Four months later the disc is still in the drive, the Macbook doesn't acknowledge the fact that there is a disc in the drive, and it won't eject the disc that is in the drive. It says "No Drives" and refuses to do anything. When booting, you can audibly hear the disc spinning but that's it.

I have tried the "hold down the mouse button" while booting, which didn't work. I am hesitant to open the laptop up because it's such a pain. Part of me thinks this has to do with region settings but I can't confirm.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!

I don't know if it's the same but the jumper settings?

Hmm, as far as I can tell, there aren't any jumpers involved. It was literally a plug and play kind of thing. Then one day it stopped working. Juno is still stuck in there.

Take the drive out?

In a sense that's why I'm posting on all of these forums, to find out if it's a software or hardware issue. I would really like to avoid opening this thing up again if I don't have to. Especially if I open it up only for everything to "appear" fine and it still not work. I have a feeling I'm not going to have much of a choice but I'm quite certain it's either

a) Hardware (lose optical drive cable or a bent pin)
b) Or a firmware issue. I hope it's not this because I have been unable to find a firmware flasher or actual firmware for this drive (UJ-857-C).

have you tried to hold down the click button while its booting ?

Yes, as mentioned in the OP. The concern isn't really getting the disc out, but getting the drive working.
