No Display. monitor works.

I have a computer that I've been trying to work on and I just can't figure out what the problem is. The power supply seems to be doing its job. The cpu fan goes on when I turn the power on, and I am able to open the dvd drives and I believe everything is plugged in and what not. I've tried 2 monitors and different cables but it still tells me to check the signal or cables...I was using the onboard video, so then I put a video card into the PCI slot and still can't get a picture. I have a hard drive but I'm not even sure if it works.
Is it possible that power is still able to power the cpu fan but the motherboard is messed up somewhere else?

Looks like it's either your motherboard, or video card that is causing the problem. You probably need to go into the bios and setup default display adapter. If this is a laptop, there is a button on the laptop that toggles external monitor.

ahh. nope not a laptop. i don't know how i can go into the bios and set the default display cause even when i plug the monitor into the onboard nothing shows up on the monitor. but i know what you mean though with the bios settings.

lol, sorry i forgot you can't see anything on the screen. Maybe try to do a cmos reset? it usually helps reset bios setting to factory working state.
