no cruising ordinances are used to keep city streets clear of useless traffic. In my small home town it is used to try to prevent highschoolers from just driving around all night and causing trouble
People actually do that? What a waste of gas.
Yeah, I've done it on and off for over 30 years. Don't knock it till you've done it once or twice. Probably the best times I ever had were cruising.
Businesses that come out against it, don't get my business. There was a fast food place years ago that was one of the main proponents of an anti crusing law. Why I don't know, his place was packed on Fri and Sat nights. We (us crusiers) spent a lot of money in there. When he was shown on TV in front of the county commission, his business was doomed. The anti-cruise ordinance was passed, but it wasn't banned, just restricted to Fri nights, between 8 and 11. His place was a ghost town. Not just on Fri and Sat, it was dead period. It was closed a few months later. He whined and cried that the cruisers "misunderstood". No, we understood all right, and so did he at the end.
A McD's a few miles from here began harrassing younger customers who made it the end point of a cruise route. They hired off duty cops to nag, harrass, bug, annoy, etc anyone they thought was a "crusier". Of course, they harrassed people who weren't crusing in the first place along with the cruisers. I was in there after seeing a movie with 3 friends and we got tossed out before we were even finished eating.
The guy who managed it didn't understand that more than 50% of his total business, was kids from my HS. Us older kids spread the word, and the place took a huge hit. McDs wisely gave him the boot, got rid of the "Gestapo" cops, and the place got busy as usual again. They left you alone, unless you got stupid.
