no case PC, how?

I want to test the PC components building PC. Have MB, PS, memory, HD, CD, etc, but do not yet have a case.

I would like to test them but not sure how to turn the thing on (without the power button on the case...)

Can someone give me a hint on how to get the thing started in absence of a PC case?

thanks,

gychang

You jump any Green wire to a black wire on the 20/24 pin PSU connector. There is one green and many black wires, a simple paper clip works.

and keep it off anything that can conduct static.

I normally run my stuff on cardboard or wood when out of a case.

he's asking how to turn the system on without pushing a button. lol.

How do you expect him to jump start his psu when its plugged into the computer?

First look on the board for a push switch that says power. Some boards now come with a pwr button on the board directly.

If you dont have one, then:

Basically u need to find the header on your board where you would put in the jumper to the power button.

It should say ATX PWR or PWR, and its usually below or next to the RESET jumper header.

Take a screw driver and just connect the 2 headers that belong to ATX PWR on the board, and it should simulate you pushing the switch.

Or build it right next to your case, so you can use the case headers on the board and just push the power switch.

Headers look like this (lower right corner those pins):

thanks, that's very helpful, wonder if I need to just jump it or touch with tip of the screw driver for a second... will try it.

You just need to touch it momentarily.

Some motherboards have alternate power buttons on them. For instance in the picture that aigomorla posted, you can see the PWRSW1 button just below the fan header.

You can just lay the motherboard on the cardboard box that the motherboard came in, install the CPU, fansink, RAM, graphics card and hook up the power supply. Heck, can also hook up drives.
