i7 920 @ 2.66 Ghz + 6 GB RAM + BFG 8800 GTX OC = No Bottlenecking ?

I sure hope not because I get my i7 tomorrow, I have big hopes.
 
I didnt spend any money on this GPU. I got it for free a few months back. But I am using a 19" monitor, may upgrade to 22".

Good match for 1600x1200 resolution. 8800gtx oc is more or less = hd4850
 
Heck of a lot easier to deal with a GPU bottleneck (and pretty rare these days). If your new CPU is a lot stronger than the old one, enjoy the speed bump - the 8800 GTX is going to be stretching its legs totally out.
 
8800GTX is good for anything but Crysis at Very High. Everything else, G80 still runs like a charm, even at the highest settings (pre-AA)
 
by definition there is ALWAYS a bottle neck... it is just a matter of scope and location. and your video card is waaaaaaaaaaaYYYYYYYYYYYYYY too weak for an i7.
So yea, the CPU isn't gonna bottleneck the GPU in most cases, but the GPU is gonna bottleneck the hell out of you.

This statement is not true.With most games a core i7 @ 2.6 = q6600 (like yours) @3.0.
A q6600 @ 3.0 is not gonna bottleneck the hell out of a 8800gtx overclock @ 1900x1200 res.

guy93: I think your system will be fine, and you will benefit from overclocking your CPU from 2.66 to ~3.6ghz. Beyond that, if you want better framerates for your games, you will want to upgrade your graphics card.

My recommendation for a good gpu is the hd4890 for $185 AR.

Your 8800GTX should be fine for most all games on a 22" lcd.
 
I probably wont buy a 22", I am so used to 19" gaming resolution, so I'll probably just stick around with this. As for overclocking, I do not think I would need it, since the only game I play a lot and take seriously is Counter Strike Source. On top of that I have never overclocked a processor in my life 😛 Don't think I will be confident with all this QPI stuff with the i7's.

OP are you gonna overclock that i7?

If you clock it high enough you will be bottlenecked, but if you're running at 1280x1024 I have no idea why you're using such a powerful computer.
