No Audio over HDMI for ASUS M3A78-EM Mobo

Hi I just built a rig using M3A78-EM thinking of using it as a HTPC. I have video connected to my receiver through HDMI and was expecting to get audio over the HDMI wire. However, I am getting no audio this way. Under BIOS I selected HD audio and HDMI audio instead of SPDIF. I have the latest drivers/BIOS for the mobo from the asus site. Still no luck. Running Windows XP SP3 Any help will be really appreciated. Thanks.

Did you select the default Audio Device as the HDMI ATi one in the applications you're running? Otherwise it will still go though the onboard audio.

Just a little FYI, I built the rig below from parts about a week ago. I finished assembling it and hooked it up straight HDMI to my tv without even having run windows or anything. HDMI came right up and I configured the BIOS that way. I did not mess with any of the audio in there. I then went on to install everything and did not have any issues except the one above: my HDMI audio did not work while my video did. I read a few forums regarding this but it just seemed too complicated for such a small problem It seemed like it should be an easy fix and it was actually.

I just went into Control Panel>Sounds and Audio>Audio
Under Sound Ouput I changed it from RealTEK HD Audio to AVI HD Rear Audio and boom, it worked.

Just so you know, when I loaded my drivers (which was done immediately after XP SP3 was installed, I installed EVERY driver on the cd, I haven't updated any so I just went with what the cd has and I haven't had any issues. I ran into a similar problem with a Dell surround sound PC center that would only put sound through the front speakers, a little adjustment to 5.1 fixed it. Hopefully this helps shed some light on your problem and anyone who comes to this forum. Best of luck.
