hey guys, ive got a fujitsu lifebook a6110 here that i installed xp on (came with vista) and installed all my drivers listed here:

http://support.fujitsupc.com/CS/Portal/supportsearch.do

(if they dont show up, enter notebook pc - A series - A6110)

im using the xp drivers of course. installed all of them, everything seems to be working fine except for the audio.

when i go into control panel > sounds and audio devices, it shows No Audio Device.

anyone got any idea whats wrong? i tried installing the ac97 driver also, but no luck.

also tried installing the HD audio driver for alc262 but it says no suitable driver found when i try to install it

any help is appreciated, thanks guys

Try to install driver manually, control panel - device manager - select your audio device - right click select properties - drivers select update driver, from there you can able to install driver manually.

WINXP Installs fine in an A6110 and runs wonderfully (better than the VISTA that it came with) plus you can use your old software (eg, NERO 6 good, NERO 8 bad). The issue you are having probably involves order in which drivers were installed. (You actually need to read and follow the notes which come with the driver suite that tell you what needs to be installed in which order. Also, some drivers dont install correctly if you try to install them from the unzipped folder, so always copy the extracted files to a new folder then install from there.) Below are the WINXP install steps for my A6110:

- Prepare Floppy Disk (Files for 82801HEM/HBM SATA AHCI Controller)

- Set BIOS = AHCI Enabled

- Install WINXP (use F6 option)

DRIVERS IN GENERAL: DO NOT INSTALL FROM UNZIP FOLDER - COPY UNZIP TO NEW FOLDER THEN INSTALL

Install Order :

- Chipset
- SATA
- Intel Matrix Storage Manager " iata78_enu.exe" ( http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/sb/CS-022034.htm)
- ICH8M Ultra ATA Storage Controller - 2850 (82801HEM/HBM SATA AHCI Controller)
- Video
- Audio
- Modem
- LAN
- Wireless 4965AGN
- SmartCard (Note: Driver files extracted to Documents and Settings\.... 02SmartCard)
- MediaCard Reader (Note: Driver files extracted to Documents and Settings\.... 02Memory)
- TouchPad
- ACPI (FUJU2B1 device) - Satisfies Unknown Device Line Item
- System Extension Utility Device Driver (FUJ02E3) - Satisfies Unknown Device Line Item

- System Extension Utility
- Shock Sensor
- Power Saving Utility
- Touch Button

I detect that you tried back in August to install WINXP in A6110 but had the audio issue - see:

http://forums.anandtech.com/me...t_key=y&keyword1=A6110

Presumably you gave up and instead went with the OEM VISTA that came with the notebook, but are now re-attempting to install WINXP. If this is the case, then I can assure you that everything WINXP can be made to work great (better than VISTA) in A6110 even the touch buttons (for these just use the VISTA driver and taylor the buttons to suit).

Again, watch the order of the driver installs. Read the notes which come with the drivers. Dont install from zipped folders, but instead copy the unzipped files to a newly created folder then install from there. If you still have trouble, remember that audio drivers look for modems and things so uninstall and reinstall the modem (ie, reverse the install order of audio and modem). Liberally reboot between each driver install and check to ensure that that driver has installed properly and has found its related hardware.

Oh yes, there are actually two sources for the audio driver. One is from the Fujitsu USA site and the other is from the SINGAPOR site. I dont remember which one I ended up using, but if the driver that you tried doesnt work, then download and try the driver from the other site. If that doesnt work, then download and try an XP audio driver for the A6120 or A6130, etc.

As I recall, I didnt have any difficulty with the audio driver, but I did have a small bit of problem getting the AHCI controller, Extension Device and Media Card Controller drivers to take. This is what I mean by cleaning up dangling wires. Just uninstall and reinstall related devices and drivers to get everything aligned and working.

thanks for the info. yeah, that was my thread way back then :p. i decided to go for xp again. do you by chance have a link for where you downloaded your drivers? you say to unzip the archive before i install the driver, rather than install it from the zip. mine arent in a zip file, they are just .exe's that i download from the usa fujitsu website, which makes me wonder if maybe there are a better set of drivers out there.

also, what is the best way to uninstall all of my drivers so i can re-install them in the order that you mentioned?

thanks a lot

Here is URL for the Singapore site:
http://www.pc-ap.fujitsu.com/support/drv_lifebook.html

As I recall, some of the drivers were slightly different than offered on the USA site. (I actually downloaded all available drivers from all stes [both VISTA and XP] and developed a correlation matrix. I was very enthusiastic about my new A6110 and still am.) As I recall, it wasnt really that difficult to get everything working. Only about 20 minutes to clean up dangling wires. But as I recall, there were two or three drivers which are needed for the XP install that had to be copied into separate new folders or else they would not install correctly. Also some of the extracted files (such as the media card reader) extract to Documents and Settings ...... and you will need to point device manager to that location to get the media card reader driver installed.

The most time was spent getting all the touch buttons in the touch button panel working & I think that in the end I used the VISTA touch button driver. If you still have trouble you might also try a A6020 audio driver.

Let me know what happens. Ill see if I can confirm the audio driver that is being used in A6110.
(Right now Im doing this effort on a Fujitsu S6240.)

You will like XP. VISTA had some performance issues (eg, when copying large files in the background) plus certain legacy software was not compatible (eg, CD, DvD writing and Adobe Acrobat plus other miscellaneous games and stuff). With XP everything works and is interoperable and performance is better. Also all my machines have the same GUI. Finally, I do not like the increased DRM (digital rights management) that has been added in VISTA (as I do a lot with movies).

The Audio Driver that is installed and working in the A6110 that Im writing this reply on is:

Realtek
Date: 3/12/2007
Version: 5.10.0.5384

This is the driver hosted on the USA site.

However, the SINGAPORE site has a Version 5.10.0.5485 and which is substantially larger (34MB vs 22.7MB for USA) and should be tried.

Good luck. Let me know how it turns out.

i did another fresh install of xp so i wouldn't have any drivers installed so i could install them in the order that you specified, but i had no luck with the audio again. then i tried different combinations, still no luck with the audio. i tried the drivers from the singapore website that you linked, but that also did not help. i then tried the drivers from the a6120, those also did not work.

i went into control panel > add new hardware, installed my audio controller, tried the drivers again, but still no luck. ive pretty much exhausted all of my idea, im clueless as to what else i should try. i cant figure out why i cannot get my audio working properly.

do you have any other ideas? thanks for all the help

My device manager for the audio looks just like your sample except I have the additional line item: Realtek High Definition Audio

My BIOS Version is : 1.04 (Dated 8/2/2007)
Configuration ID is : A6B3F1E609A81000

Some other possibilities to try would be:

1. Download and try the Realtek generic driver for ICs. Get the Windows 2000, Windows XP/2003(32/64 bits) Driver only (Executable file) R2.07 2008/10/16 28316k at:

http://www.realtek.com.tw/down...TypeID=3&GetDown=false

(Note: Check box - I Accept the Above then click next)

2. Try the VISTA audio driver

3. Re-try installation but using a different version of WINXP.
I have loaded WINXP versions HOME and PRO with and without SP1 successfully. After the install and everything working, I then install SP2. New full versions have SP2 already slipstreamed in along with some additional DRM. So you might want to try to install an older version of WINXP (eg, WINXP Home with SP1 only) if you were working with the latest and greatest.

i tried to download that generic driver you linked, but when i check the box and hit next, it says the object has moved. i click the link and it just takes me back to the same page.

i manually added my audio controller, but it said 'This device cannot start'. i tried downloading and installing the Microsoft UAA Bus Driver, no luck, then i tried installing the driver from the singapore site again, still no luck. still says 'This device cannot start'.

i dont know why i am having such a problem here, seeing as you say you didnt have any troubles at all installing your audio drivers.

as i was writing this reply, i just had an idea. while installing xp on this maching, i was having trouble, getting the error that no hard disks could be found. so i slipstreamed my sata drivers into my xp installation. could this have any impact on my issue? i dont have a floppy drive on this machine, nor do i have a usb floppy drive, so i cant use that for my installation.

ill try another win xp installation a bit later tonight, but ill have to slipstream my sata drivers again

On the Realtek site at the URL I gave you:

Click "HD Audio Codec Driver" (lower right)
Then do the checkbox and Next.
That will get you in.

The audio was no problem with me, so it is something special about your situation which could be your XP install version/configuration or possibly your BIOS version.

The main thing now is to focus on determining how to get the audio working. So after the install you only need to load the chipset, video then the audio.

So other ideas to try right away are these:

- After your WINXP, chipset, video and audio driver install then DO A WINXP REPAIR !
(Note: Use the USA audio driver version as this is known to work in A6110)

also try,

- New install but first disable the AHCI in the BIOS then install using your original (non-slipstreamed) master WINXP disk. This will just be to help confirm that the slipstream version isnt the issue. Once you figure the audio thing out then you can easier develop a procedure for getting the whole computer working to satisfaction.

What's that WMA or generic Windows driver that you have to install first? I had to do it for an HP laptop. Took a whole weekend to figure it out....

well i just installed xp pro sp2 again without my slipstreamed sata drivers (disabled AHCI in BIOS first). right at first boot, installed chipset, rebooted, installed audio driver, and it actually found and installed my audio controller this time!!! but it did not work properly. so i rebooted, installed my WLAN drivers, set up my network, went into device manager, saw my Realtek High Definition Audio in the list for the first time without me having to add it manually, right clicked it and updated driver. windows searched the internet for drivers for it, and it finally works! :D

thanks for all the help, now i know what i need to do next time if i have to format again.

gonna finish installing all my other drivers now, thanks for the help

WOW !!!!!
I would relax for a while and use the XP to make sure that you like it sufficiently to invest more time. You dont have the AHCI but the HDD performance hit, based on my experience, is almost not noticeable (just slightly a bit less under heavy multitasking) . However, if you're like me, in the end you want it all.

When time permits, borrow a USB floppy drive from Frys and do the AHCI install using the F6 option (remember first to re-set the BIOS). (There may be a way to install this from a CD or USB jump drive, but that is something you'll have to research.)

After you get your final configuation set the way you like it then IMAGE THE OS PARTITION !!!!!!!
