No experiance with raid
getting this message when I start the comp. I upgraded the mobo and installed my old hard drive won't let me boot up into xp. I have my hd in the prim master cd burner seconday master as usual but wont let me boot not even in safe mode🙁 any ideas
thanks

So you have a raid array or you don't have an array? Most of the time you can't expect an operating system to work when swapping motherboards, an array or a single hard drive.

I have done this before without a problem. The drives just relaod and I add the required drivers thereafter. I guess I should boot of the floppy and relaod win xp?
Any other ideas?

You could try booting to the XP CD, start the installation and go to the point where if "finds" the previous load of XP. It will give you the option of repairing the installation. 50/50 chance of working. In hindsight, you could have, on your old system, gone through and delted/uninstalled drivers to hardware, then shut down, switch it all out and boot. Better chance. Procedure is longer than this but I am short on time right now. Do a search on the forums here and you should find instructions for that; should you ever want to try again.

Correct. You may have done it before but it's a huge YMMV thing.

And your point is? Sorry if I took this wrong but I did mention, "50/50 chance of working". If you are talking about the "hindsight" option, the chances are much better. In fact, I would try this first; given the chance, over a new installation. Understand that this is ONLY in the case that a person does not want to do a new installation under any circumstances if it can be avoided. I always like and prefer a fresh install but have run into a few customers that avoid this like the plague. In that case, the second option I mentioned stands an excellent chance. In addition, there is even a similar procedure posted in the AT FAQ's. No, it is not a certainty but it is a viable and proven opportunity for some that will work in most cases. (please notice the italics for most) 😀
BTW if I, for some reason, totally misread your response, please accept my apologies.

That was meant for him. He said in the post that he had done it before and I was just backing you up on what you told him to do.

rorpan,
It almost sounds as if you have the RAID option enabled on the MB. There should be a jumper to enable/disable RAID. Am I correct in assuming you did not have your drives in a RAID array previously, since you said you had no experience with RAID? That being the case, it does sound as if your MB is looking for an array. Check out the jumpers on the new board.

amdskip,
NP, just wasn't clear to me at the time. Thanks.
