no alcohol after minor surgery?

I just had a cyst removed on my upper back this morning and the doc told me to avoid taking any aspirin type medication (anything that can thin the blood) and to avoid alcohol for at least 2 days. My brother in law however says since it was a minor surgery, a beer shouldn't have any adverse effects.

My wife and I are about to go out for dinner in about an hour and I was curious what other folks think about one beer? Or better to just avoid it all together
 
Alcohol is also a blood thinner and can interact with certain medications. Best to avoid it for a couple of days like the doctor said.
 
drink. I'm sure the docs of ATOT will correct me if I'm wrong, but the alcohol will just thin your blood. the risk would be that you could start bleeding again.
 
Unless there's a conflict with the meds it's just the blood thinning part to be concerned. Pretty sure the concern with surgery and alcohol is just internal bleeding. You're not going to bleed out from an external wound like that because your blood is thinned.

No cause there's a diff between a functioning pot head and. Lazy stoner fuck. I go to school full time. I work 30 hours a week bringing home a nice income and I just moved into a townhouse with a roomate. I am talking about my recovery from opiates.
 
Not aware of any particular reason why alcohol needs to be avoided, as long as it is in moderation.

Does alcohol thin the blood? Possibly. However, whether it does for sure, how strong the effect is, how long it takes and how long it last, and why it occurs, are not known. The idea that alcohol thins the blood is speculation based upon the fact that people who drink a moderate amount of alcohol tend to have few heart attacks and strokes than people who abstain. As heart attacks and strokes tend to be caused by blood clots, the conclusion is that alcohol might, in some way, be thinning the blood.

Aspirin does have quite a potent blood thinning effect, so is best avoided. But then so does oily fish (like herring and mackerel), and fish oil supplements; in fact their blood thinning effect is well recognised as almost as strong as aspirin.
 
when i had shoulder surgery i wasn't told about no alcohol. but when i had a mole removed of my neck she said none for week!

not sure why some doctors say not to have it but others won't.

If you're taking Tylenol for pain, it's better to avoid alcohol. Acetaminophen is hard on your liver, and alcohol makes it worse.
