problem is we've been deficit spending for 30 years and so who knows where an actual long term sustainable budget is.

I imagine we'll find out in the next couple of decades.

I'm assuming that, since the Democrats are faced with probably losing one and perhaps both chambers of Congress, they will instead pass last year's budget. That seems to me to be a good thing; if we did that every year and stuck to it we'd eventually catch up.
