You're an idiot if you're afraid of her growing up a 'geek' encourage her intellectual growth at EVERY opportunity. If, as she grows, she needs to be encouraged to socialize / be physical, you can encourage that too, but don't EVER discourage her intelligence. EVER

If you're to year old girl is getting two smart for her own good maybe you should send her too a gifted children program. Eye to was like that when eye was too, butt my parents never cent me two anywear special =/
 
My daughter will be 2 in January. As of right now she can do all the following;

Speak and be understood with 3 word sentences (Daddy, Elmo please?)

Very polite. When you sneeze she says "Bless you". When you cough she says "Excuse please".

Can recognize basic shapes and call them by name.

Knows what most common animals are and sound like. Dog, cat, turtle, etc.

And has more coordination than her cousin who was born 3 weeks behind her. By coordination I mean she can hop on one foot and has no fear of climbing stairs.

If this is advanced for her age, then I am very proud of her and will continue to cultivate this curiosity she has about the world. Being from a small town should never be a hinderance to the pursuit of knowledge. Hell, you got the Internet! The world is right at your keyboard.
 
My oldest (now 8) was advanced at the age of 1-3, now he struggles in school (dyslexia doesn't help). My middle one (6) was somewhat slow by most benchmarks, now he's the most advanced in the gifted program. My youngest (just turned 3) is waaaaaay beyond what the other two were at that age with amazing cognitive reasoning skills, can add smallish numbers in his head, and recognizes by sight about 2-3 dozen words.

You know how we handled all of them? We treat them like kids and let them grow at them at their own pace, giving encouragement all along the way.

Because more and more people are having children and using them to accomplish things they couldn't do as a kid. It's no longer about having a kid to further the blood line or carry on the family, it's about gaining attention at all costs.

Yet another reason why having a kid should be licensed/regulated.

I'm not saying I want to hold her back, I just don't want her "gift" to destroy her.. Maybe she isn't even that advanced, I might just be reading to much into it... I have 2 other children, a 6yr. old and a 3.. The 6yr. old is in 1st. grade now and gets straight A's.. My yongest is way further along then she was, even at 3..

Hmm, about 15 people beat me to the grammer lesson. That said, in my experience the youngest usually picks things up fastests because they watch and compete with their older siblings. That said, my daughter is 18 months and knows 16 differnt letters (at last count). She also doesn't understand grammer yet (she thinks the noun always goes before the verb with the subject last ^_^), but she can tell rudimentary stories.
 
I know she may seem smart to you, but that's only because you don't know the difference between "too" and "to." Don't worry, compared to the rest of us, she is of average intelligence.

Oh, and also, it's "than."

No... it is true. I was like that as a kid. 🙁

It is definitely tougher for the kid to fit in, but just allow her to be who she was made to be and things will work out. She may be "geeky", but if she knows she is accepted, things will be fine.

You definitely want to keep her challenged otherwise, she will become lazy like I did.

What do you want - someone like Paris Hilton, a brain dead partier, or Janna Levin, a theoretical physicist.....whose social life I know little about. Saw her on The Colbert Report though. I'd sooner have another Janna Levin in the world. There are too many Paris Hiltons already.
