NLCS Game 5 Thread - Astros v. Cardinals

I know this isn't the most exciting Championship series for a lot of you outsiders, but we Houstonians are pumped right now!

Anyway, the game is now in the top of the third, Astros are up 1-0 after a two-out RBI single by Craig Biggio. The Astros have actually hit pretty well against Chris Carpenter in this game. The Cardinals defense, however, has been absolutely spectacular so far and have made some outstanding putouts.

Andy Pettitte started off shaky in the 1st by allowing walks in a row, but has looked quite solid since then.

Go 'Stros!

Pettitte had a tough top of the third inning. It took him 32 pitches to get through the inning, but allowed (luckily) only two runs and was able to get all three outs on strikeouts (including striking out Pujols and Reggie Sanders).

Cardinals 2, Astros 1

Ehh... it's not looking good for the 'Stros, even if it is still only 2-1 in the 7th.

I'm getting really frustrated with Berkman and Ensberg's lack of production in the series. They were the big hitters in the regular season and now can't seem to get it past the pitchers.

Qualls is pitching now, which is a good thing.

Man, this is becoming sort of a crappy postseason for a neutral fan (well, neutral since my Red Sox lost). Maybe the World Series will go seven games...

Sanders got a good bounce on the hit off the wall. Of course, Ensberg really didn't look like he was running that fast, either. I guess that counts as a single, though, right?

Haha - poor Gallo. It always seems like it's one pitch against a left-hander and then he's out of the game.

Dear god, why. The cards dominate the Astros all year and now they are suddenly completely shut down.

Good game, but a sad way for the cards to go out.

3 more outs and the 'stros are going to the big game for the very first time. I'm sure "Lights out" will make an appearance in the 9th. God I wish the Mets had a closer like Lidge.

Actually, I'm kinda nervous with Lidge. Sure, he's great, but he can get wild when he doesn't have his stuff and really hasn't been "lights out" the past two games. He almost had a legitimately blown save but got really lucky. I say keep Wheeler in, but if I had my pick, I'd keep Qualls in throughout the final innings.

And that's why I don't manage the Astros. 😀

Here comes Lidge Astro fans! Are you rocking on your chair like Leo Mazzone??!! Are you about to explode with joy??

how did pujols do tonite so far??

oh ya, 0 - 4 in the biggest game of the season for the cardinals.

yup, he really did it when they needed it.
