Well, I just got back from school for my 1 month of winter break. Decided to work on my Kyosho GP Spider R/C car. It's an awesome car...a little .11 nitro engine that I run 15-20% on, AWD, in a 1/10th scale model. The body, which I never use, is a Mitsubishi EVO-V.

So, I got back home and completely rebuilt the car. The engine was pretty slimy but not too bad. Cleaned it all up, put it back together, and it started right up and ran great. This car has never had a problem starting, unlike many R/C cars I've seen out there, guess i've just been lucky. After-Run oil, it's a miracle...USE IT.

I also have a Traxxas Nitro Sport...I hate it. I mean, I love the truck-style r/c car...but I mean...I just really dispise the EZ-Start system that Traxxas put on there. This thing is really cool though, it's RWD and can take a beating....I mean...it gravitates towards those 4ft dirt jumps. I'm thinking about rebuilding the truck too, but I'm most likely going to just sell it for say...$125.

Some may ask why I don't get modifications for the Kyosho car...and I say, it needs none. The small engine is super efficient and doesn't make any excessive/annoying noise. This car's great, it doesn't need the 2-speed or the driveshaft upgrade...I'm going to keep it how it is. I plan to sell this car come summer anyways, it'll be a great car for someone to own, I built it 100% by hand.

Anyways, just thought I'd share...R/C caring is a great hobby, kinda expensive...but a great hobby. Can't wait to get a new one and work on it...havn't decided what style...Stadium Truck, Monster Truck, Touring, or Rally...we'll see.

Those cars are so cool, it's amazing how fast they go. Someone here just started pointing them out to me the other day.

I have a friend that sunk a LOT of money into his...it'll top 80-90MPH.

I had my truck going at least 25 when it hit my foot...I limped for 2 days.

They go so fast...you'll be suprised at how many people get hit...just can't really move.

Yep from what I read on em they are pretty cool, I'd like to sink money into one, but I have to hold till after I buy a Shifter Kart 1st ;) then have to rebuild the toy slush fund again ;) then I can look at something like that :)

bah, on a "regular sized" track, my electric would lap you time and again. I stopped racing R/C about 4 years ago, but I recall the gas ppl coming out to the tracks. They would always get beat. They need longgg straights to be competitive against the electrics.

I like the little .11, it's all I need, not competing or anything. The next car is going to get a horsepower though.

I agree, the electrics have greater torque and acelleration, but nothing some good gearing shouldn't be able to fix on a nitro.

I AM GOING TO LIST THE TRAXXAS NITRO SPORT ON EBAY TONIGHT, IF ANYONE WANTS FIRST DIBS, PM ME ASAP!!!

Then why at all the nats where the pros race, the electrics turn in better times on the same tracks?

It wouldn't be a proper RC thread without the never-ending "nitro vs electric" war going on. heh heh ;)

Fast electrics are like the slow gas powered cars. Sure, electrics get can get out of the hole quicker since the electric motor has its full torque from 0 RPM and up, but properly set up nitro will tear you up. :D Then after 5 minutes of "being competitive" with the nitro, you'll have to charge them batteries up. I just squirt some fuel in and keep going. Another cool feature about nitro cars is when you are bashing around in a parking lot, you will get rather large audience in a short period of time. People always pull into the lot and watch from their cars, or just come over and ask me about it. They think all the noise and exhaust is cool, and it is!

OS Engines generally rock for the most part...the engine in my car is an HPI .15FE, which is an average engine...but cheap, so I have no problem abusing it. I'm getting a little hungry for power, so as soon as I can convince myself that more debt is OK, I'm gonna go for either a .15 OS CVR or maybe the new HPI .12 EVO-II, which is made by novarossi. I've also been considering an "underdog" engine, the HPI Nitrostar SS. If anything, it looks cool. :D But it's supposed to be pretty powerful, a wolf in sheeps clothing. I just can't find any performance specs on it anywhere.

<< Bah, drop that puny .11 Nitro and put in this bad boy! RC car heaven.
Only set you back a cool $200 :)

Can you pretty much fit any touring body on a touring chassis and any offroad body on an offroad chassis?

BTW...where are some good sites to buy/look at some bodies?

HEY>>> I HAVE THE SAME CAR!!!

amazing stuff... the GS11r is a very great engine... stable, efficient, durable. But it's lacking in power and the carb lacks tuning ability. I've been using that engine for a year with barely any degradation... but I grown out of such a small engine and decided to lean it out quite a bit.... I blew the piston reving it across a big parking lot...

Got a OS CV-R now and it's BRILLIANT... I still kept the original tin can exhaust with the kyosho because I can't stand all that dirt you get when you switch to a side exhaust tuned pipe.

this is a great beginners car because you don't have too much to tune and it's a great performer with very HIGH QUALITY PARTS!!! kyosho plastic parts are top notch... and kyosho upgrades are also top of the line... its a shame that its so expensive in north america.

Anyway, if you wanna improve overall handling performance... I'd suggest you buy some HPI tires (great durability sacrificing little traction) along with some turnbuckles to adjust the camber. this car tends to be a little tail happy using stock configuration. another thing, the chassis is not countersunk so you'll eventually need to upgrade the chassis and probably grab yourself a fibre upper deck as well just to be safe. next is to add universals on your front drive and this car is pretty much ready to handle anything.

I LOVE THIS HOBBY...
during the summer, I spend hours on end tuning the car to work perfectly... then test driving it and retuning it... I actually like reconfiguring the car more than driving it. Cuz seeing how your efforts in customizing actually helped the handling gives such great satisfaction.
so far, I'm tuning without any of those special tuning tools (huddy setup sets)... and it's been a little frustrating sometimes, but I got to save a LOT of money from just eye-ing the camber,castor,toe-in,ride-height,etc.

btw, HPI bodies are the cheapest, but you gotta do a bit of modding because the wheelbase is slightly different on the Kyosho.
Pro-Line bodies are better for this car because they don't have designated wheelwells... and they have the ferrari :)

My personal favorite is the HPI Porsche 911 turbo body... lots of stability and downforce... plus looks amazing.
for just display, the Mercedes S55 AMG looks nice in black...
recently got a Porsche GT3 and did an amazing job (get pics after exams if this thread doens't die), except messed up the spoiler.

anyway, have fun with your car!
