Nissan with a Cummins

They have been working on that for a long time. When I had my titan there were pictures of Mules with the diesel engine in them for testing.

Only surprise here is its a V8. The early testing was done with a 4cyl diesel. Of course maybe they want both?
 
I think GM had the head start on this idea and didn't follow through. Lots of talk a while ago about a smaller Duramax V8.

All big 3 had plans for a 1/2 ton diesel. But then the crash and problems with other diesel motors killed all those plans. The Nissan Titan was supposed to die and they were just going to put a Nissan badge on a dodge truck. But again the crash killed that as well.

A lot of stuff was pushed back or killed due to the market crash. Seems its just catching back up now.
 
But GM was very close and had the smaller Duramax ready to go, iirc. It was a 4.5L made by GM, and it looked to be an impressive engine.

Pretty sure Dodge had a V8 Cummins lined out to release in 2010. Why they would go with the V8 instead of just putting a 4BT(same as the HD motor just 2 cylinders shorter) is beyond me.

Can't go wrong with a Cummins diesel, I plan to keep my Dodge forever if possible.

The only issue is the crappy transmission they tied with the 5.9L motor. 🙁

Can not blame Cummins for that. Typical automotive design. Piecemeal ignoring how pieced need to interact effectively
 
Dodge will be first with the V6 VM Motori in the 1500. I will resist temptation to take both the new car hit and the early adopter possible nightmare. Barely resist 😀

That strange V6 won't get it, imo.

People will trust a cummins or duramax V8 over an engine they haven't heard of.
 
VM Motori put a I4 diesel in the 2005-2006 Jeep Liberty. I've driven a few of the 2006 Limted CRD Liberty's and they were pretty nice. Though I've heard if you don't keep the fluids very up-to-date then the motor begins to have issues.

As a big Cummins fan I think Dodge is completely retarded for not picking up where they left off and putting the V8 Cummins in their 1500. And this is coming from someone would much rather see the old I4 Cummins go there, but I think they would have a more difficult time with emissions.

I don't think the 4bt is as good as you think it is. I've heard it has bad vibration issues. Guy that rents one of our houses is an application engineer for Cummins. He said it can shake your fillings out. Plus it's not exactly a lightweight engine.

This, I had a 4BT swapped into an old 80' F150 2x4 and it was ANYTHING but smooth. Old UPS trucks had 4BT with a Ford small block bell housing adapter designed to drop in place of a 300-6. I averaged ~26mpg highway @ 60mph with that truck and it had tons of torque but I'm glad I didn't have fillings in my teeth back then. To think that these new 1/2 ton trucks with a Diesel will get 30mpg is asinine IMO especially with the new emissions crap putting the ding in the mileage and how heavy the current 1/2 tons weigh I'd say 24-25mpg @ 70 will be the norm. At that rate the 2-3mpg advantage over a GASSER is completely offset bet the .30-1.00 difference in fuel prices and one will never recoup the difference payed in price when new. I used to be a Diesel Guy but I wised up this go round, leave the diesels to the small compact cars or the 3/4 ton+ trucks that tow a lot.

If they put a diesel in the RAM 1500, it will probably be the 3.0L V6 Multijet similar to the one from the Grand Cherokee. Probably bumped up to 271hp.

Well the 3.7L gasser was a disaster as well. Yeah I'm not to fond of VMM as the motor in the Liberty was very high maintenance. But when they worked right they had great power and in the 06 limited the 4x4 worked very nicely(I believe it was a Mercedes designed system).

But yes, I would much rather see them put a Cummins in it instead of a VMM. From the recent articles though it appears Ram will be going with the VMM.
