Nissan is recalling 276,000 Sentras to replace a faulty engine part. Recalls by General Motors and Ford were also announced by federal regulators.

The Nissan recall covers Sentras built between January 2000 and March 2003. A piece of foam insulation in a box housing the engine computer can emit sulfur, possibly causing corrosion in the computer that can lead to rough running or stalling engines.

Nissan will also recall 24,300 Infiniti FX SUVs to fix a brake caliper bolt that can come loose, leading to brake failure or a flat tire. The recall covers FX35 and FX45 models built between November 2002 and July 2003.

Friend of mine has one and told me she just got a notice. Found that article.

Oh, crap. Now I'm gonna have to find time to take my 2002 Sentra GXE in.

bigdog1218: What were the problems specifically? I've had exactly one problem so far - the stereo head unit stopped functioning and was replaced under warranty. I'd be interested to know what to look out for.

Oh, geez people.

Don't blow this out of proportion.

Read it again, and then realize that this problem could've happened to anybody. Actually, this is the kind of problem that would be much easier to just sweep under the carpet, because whether or not the foam actually emits sulphur, and whether or not that sulphur corrodes the computer is going to depend largely on the environment the car is in.

Basically I'm trying to say that this problem would've taken a tremendous ammount of foresight(for the engineers) in areas that obviously nobody was thinking about.

It is an understandable mistake. Give them credit for taking action and trying to fix it.

The break caliper bolt problem.. that's a little more serious, especially for a prestigious name like Infinity.

Bad engineers!

*crack*

They had problem with the drivers seat, it had to be replaced, the motor for the driver side window was messed up and had to be replaced, constant issues with the brakes. Don't know the exact specific problems because it isn't my car but in those general areas.

I'm sure that this won't stop Skoorb from worshiping the ground that the Nissan factory sits on, though :)
