After six long years since the Nissan GTR Concept was first unveiled in October 2001, the wait is now only months away, with the public and market debut at the Tokyo Motor show this October. Production is set to commence immediately after its debut with first Japanese deliveries occurring simultaneously throughout the winter. Sales in the U.S. and Canada are set to start in the Spring of 2008.

The GTR is expected to be available in three different model levels. Despite our previous reports of a 4.5 liter V8 engine delivering 450hp, it is now commonly known that it will be a 480hp twin-turbo V6 engine in the standard base GTR as well as the middle level GTR V-Spec. They will be priced at roughly $57,000 and $67,000 respectively. The range topping EVO version with the same VQHRTT engine as the standard and V-Spec models gets a power increase up to 530hp while losing 220 lbs. from the body for an unbelievably inexpensive price of $94,000.

If this is true, it might very well give the Z06 a run for the bang for buck sector, while sporting a decent interior. ;):D

Where is SVT Cobra?

I want to hear him talk about how 480HP isn't fast and that it's just a Nissan. :p

I kid, I kid. ;)

Shame they switched it to a V6, the old RB26DETT was a sweet sweet engine...

I'd probably stick with the Z06. But after the reviews come out, and the inevitable head-to-head tests, I'm willing to have an open mind.

correct me if i'm wrong, but won't the GTR be a fairly hefty vehicle? should give the Z06 an edge as far as handling goes

I doubt it would even beat a current z06. Seriously, it will be relatively heavy and I do not think the handling will be as good as the rewarding "twitchiness" of the vette.

Either way who wants to spend over 20k for a ricer?

Sexy. More competition the better. I don't believe the $57k price but we'll have to wait and see.

You never fail to disappoint as usual with your hate/ignorance for anything that can take corners or is Japanese...

First give me a definition of rice, then explain to me what exactly is "rice" in the GT-R?

IMO the new G35 sedan has a better interior than the 2008 Vette... The GT-R will likely stick to the same styling cues...

Nice car.

Saying it's rice crap from Japan is just plain ignorant.

I'm guessing the NSX was rice too.

I give them credit for going for the bi-turbo configuration, should be a very nice engine with room to play, sort of like the 2JZ-GTE from the Supras.

$27K for 80 more ponies? I hope there are additional items that can't be readily purchased aftermarket.

My wife wants a 3rd kid and I said sure if I can finally get a nice car again. As for those that consider any Japanese car a 'ricer' I think think they are being factitious or the mullet is sucking out any remaining sense left after years of huffing.

With that kind of performance at that price, who really cares about how "horrible" the interior is. The car was made for performance/price not how nice the interior is. I doubt anyone is going to say, "You may have beat me by 2seconds but my interior is faster."

That is understandable, but when spending over 60k for any car I would like to have better interior materials than those that look like they belong in a Chevy Cobalt...

I still prefer the overall looks of the Corvette over the GT-R though.

I personally don't care for G35 interior and think it's ugly but looks are subjective. What can't be argued are the performance numbers. Both cars are smoking in this category.

I think the current Corvette is a beautiful car. The GT-R may be a little too 'young' but I probably would consider it before the regular 'Vette.

If it comes down to a Z-06, GT-R, or nicely used 911TT, I think I would go with the Porsche. The Corvette would unfortunately be shot to 3rd because my wife would start thinking of me as one of 'those guys' that typically drive Corvettes.
