Nissan GT-R faster than Corvette ZR1?

Even if they did manage, I wouldn't buy one with that weak tranny. I'd rather the Vette that is designed to handle the power.

Assuming I had that kind of money for either of course :p

Yeah I'm still waiting for the stats on the "weak tranny" most people are basing this on that one infamous guy and his $20,000 repair bill.

The new LC is awesome, seems completely safe and is faster.

How is it safer?

With it being faster, there is more or less the same amount of stress being put on the drivetrain.

Weak tranny? I dont know about that, I havent heard of any failures that werent a result of decidedly abusive behaviour. It is certainly a very complex transmission - although I assure you that it was indeed designed to handle the power as you put it. Vettes get off easily because they have a 'pressure relief valve' so to speak being only RWD. If you tossed a pair of slicks on a Z06/ZR1 and went to a drag strip and launched at 7000rpm I assure you that the likelihood of being surrounded in bits of drivetrain are the same for both cars.

I have direct experience with just this on high powered Subaru STIs. They kind of have a 'relief valve' too, in that their axles snap first. Most people consider the STI trans very overbuilt and it can easily handle 800+whp, but after 70 drag runs we have a sheared 4th gear here on a car with 450whp. Also keep in mind that faulty parts are a consideration in all failures.

Well that's good.

I actually *hope* it beats the ZR1 or at least gets very close to beating it. I mean, these cars are a hell of a value at their prices but I just want to root for the underdog that not everyone seems to like (I know there are GT-R haters here!).

i haven't read about any GT-R transmission problem that wasn't related to racing or abuse.
that thing is all myth until someone can provide some real numbers or nissan issues a recall on the entire transmission.

Nissan did issue a "recall" they reprogrammed the entire fucking ECU so that the tranny wont implode after a few launches of the MANUFACTURER INCLUDED launch control...

and, um, i can make any car faster than a currently available car... what if GM tunes the ZR1 to make a bit more? its such bullshit...

If I recall correctly, they removed the launch control on newer models to be sure you can't break their transmission. Instead of correcting the issue they put a band-aid on it. Nice.

Well VDC stays on that alone should ensure something. You can now use LC without any risk to the warranty.

That's exactly what I thought. I guess it's damaging to Nissan's ego that the ZR-1 thrashed it.

These thread = pointless. This one has got to be the most overdone though.

Why is the ZR-1 it's mortal enemy? Can't touch the Viper ACR so why try or something?

Don't think the GT-R is really an underdog. Other than having a less power it's a supercomputer with wheels and AWD/LC/TC/etc. It's been hailed as the messiah of all cars and whatnot, the everyman's supercar. They were the first to come out, they posted the "OMG FAST" 'ring time, they just weren't ready for GM.

This is as apples to oranges as you can get. Now that launch fever has died down, the price gap between these cars is HUGE.

Oh well, a cheapie Super 7 would own them both anyway.

From my understanding there was no issue. They specifically stated in the documentation that came with the car not to do certain things, and those certain things lea to failure.... for 2010, they removed the entire possibility to protect people from themselves.

Protecting people from themselves hmmm. How'd they do that?
I like the way you put the spin on things.

What spin, they arent hiding anything. People were told not to do certain things... they did... Nissan took heat, they removed the ability to do certain things.

Nissan included ECU, and then removed it because their transmissions couldn't take it. That's not protecting people from themselves, that's Nissan fucking up their included toys.

Don't know...don't care.

Honestly, I don't really care how fast the Corvette can circle some 14 mile track in Germany either.

Sounds smart... "We are going to put this feature on this car, BUT don't use it because you'll break it!"
