Are they all the same chassis? Do they use the same engine?

Does 350z == G35 2 door and Maxima == G35 4 door?

Are there any performance differences in the 4?

the Maxima shares a platform with the Altima, the Z and the G have the same platform.

At the simplest level, you can look up the specifications on edmunds.

I didn't see performance specs for the G35.

they all use the fuc king same engines.... there engines are very good... vq35 is one top 10 engines ever made... BUT they all are used in just about every infiniti lineup, and maxima, 350z, murano and altima 3.5s :|

the only thing that would differntiate between them is some ecu (Computer) timing modification and intake/exhaust maybe... that would make diff in hp/tq

dunno about chassis

They all share the same basic schweet V-6 engine, albeit in ever so slightly different states of tune.

The 350Z, G35 2dr, and G35 4dr all share the same rear wheel drive platform.

The Maxima shares it's FWD platform with the Altima.

The Altima was originally supposed to be the next generation Maxima, but when the new Nissan honcho came in (French guy?), he declared it the new Altima. The new Maxima came out later on the same platform.

The G35 coupe (2dr) body is just a slightly stretched 350z.

You can also 'see" that the Altima and the Infinit G35 4dr share the same basic sheetmetal, even though Nissan classifies them as being on different "platforms", as one is RWD, the other FWD.

It's still Iraq. It's just as dangerous now, as it ever has been. People are still getting killed here every day, and every time you leave the FOB your still entering the concrete jungle that's filled with people who would love to kill you, by any means necessary. Always have your guard up, and never get complacent.

Although Nissan classifies the front drivers as being built on a seperate platform from the rear wheel drivers in this group, I believe there is a fair degree of basic commonality between the two.

I believe patform difference and platform commonality are in the eye of the beholder here, as Nissan says the two seater 350Z is built on the same platform as the Infiniti FX35 and FX45 SUV's, but that the obviously pea in a pod Altima/G35 4dr (except for the RWD/FWD) belong to two different "platforms"

Got all that, because now I'm confused! ;)

well platform is pretty broad..if they are on the same platform, they can be assembled on the same assembly line (or with minor modification) in other words, a significant reduction in tooling is required to switch from producing one model to the other on the same platform.

As to whether or not that means that the underlying chassis is identical or not..I dunno.

'04 G35 coupe is rated at 280 hp, '04 Z is rated at 287. '05 G35 coupe will be 300 hp, '05 Z ?? don't know yet. '04 maxima is fwd, rated at 265 IIRC. 04 G35 sedan is 260 IIRC

Here's all the cars that use the VQ35:
Nissan Quest, 350Z, Altima 3.5, Maxima, Murano, and Pathfinder
Infiniti G35, G35 Coupe, FX35, I35

Yes, it's sad, I wish my Z had a unique engine :( I still love it though, gobs of torque around as low as 2k.

I'm not sure about today, but back in the day, the exact opposite was true. You could by a I30/I35 with the SAME options as the Maxima, but the Maxima cost more.

Infiniti usually has more features listed as standard, the Nissan has less, you if your smart about it, the infiniti might be cheaper..;)

I've accually been looking into the 05 Z or G35, and well, i just don't like the G35s looks as much as the Z exterior. But the G35 wins on the inside.

And side note, the "rumors" for the 05 Z are upped to around 300 HP, new better front seats, a new Yellow color, a 335hp Nismo model which "might" be using the 4.0 engine. They are also rumored to have fixed the feathering issue with some adjustable control arm or something. (me no mechanic)

The hum of the G35 engine is sexy. The Z doesn't compare in the same way so there's no way they're the same engine. Unless they got some voodoo going on there.

except that the Z car is just as much as a G35C.. I'd rather have the G35C.

The differences between engines are significant.

They have different exhaust setups (the G35C has a different exhaust from the G35 sedan), different intake setups (350Z has a different intake system than the G), different intake manifolds for all the cars, different cams and timing, different ECU, etc..

The Maxima/Altima/Murano platform are totally different from the FM platform that houses the G35/FX/350Z.

They have different different structure and suspension layouts. And within each platform, there are various differences as well (the FX has different front suspension from the G/Z).

This is all a big change from how Nissan used to be. They used to have over 23 platforms in the mid 90s, one for almost every model...it was one hte reason they were nearing bankruptcy, now its all changed. Only a few platforms to streamline production and manufacturing ability.

One platform for FWD large sedans/suvs, one for RWD sedans/coupes, one for trucks/SUVs, and probably one smaller FWD platform for small cars.
