I am looking to get this beauty car, so are there any year models I should look out for? I was thinking about getting a '93-'95.

What is the reliability like? How would it handle in snow? (I don't really live in NWT, but I do have winter).

Any cool sites you guys can show me that has more info?

Great cars :D :D

The american version uses the KA24 motor. Its pretty tourqey for a small motor and definately has the power to go.

A word of warning - this car is R(ear) W(heel) D(rive) and it can be hard to drive in the rain, snow, and ice. I'd highly recommend getting a Limited Slip Differential if you plan on driving this in the rain or snow.

from TuffGuy's link above

<< A limited-slip differential is absolutely critical for what is about to be a very powerful car, but only cars with Super HICAS had the limited slip. If you can't locate a car with one, you can find one in a junkyard from a 240SX (all Canadian 240SXs had them) >>

Since I'm in Canada, if I find a 240SX, it should have the limited slip.

I think I'm actually looking for a '91 or better. I really like the body from these years. I'm also confused about the difference between coupe and fastback. I know coupe is 2 door, but WTF is fastback?

<< Fastback is 3 doors.

It's a hatchback (looks better IMO).
>>

So the fastback = hatchback?

In other words, on the fastback the "3rd door" is just the way you open the trunk?

S13 = '89-'93
The '91 - '93 have the KA24DE and may come with VLSD and SuperHicas

S14 = '95 - '98
None of these come with SuperHICAS but they may have VLSD. They only come in coupe form. I have a S14 and I live in Toronto, Canada. With snow tires and careful driving..u can drive it in teh snow. The car is fine in slush and rain..just a little difficult in snow..but most of the time the roads are plowed.

The car is reliable and amazing handling!

240sx is nice ONLY IF you get the sr20det engine. It goes on ebay for around $1500 for the whole shabang and that includes the engine, turbocharge, manual tranny, and everything else required for the swap, I think.

Anyways, for something around $6000, you can get a fast car.

Uh... perhaps he's not going to mod the car. They're extremely nice cars anyways.

And a Turbo KA24 is as good if not BETTER than a SR20DET.

Not true..while the SR20DE is a great engine..the 240SX is nice on its own without it. Sure it may not be as fast..but it doesn't take away from the enjoyment. The KA24DE has a great sound will revving up..plus there are turbo kits for it. The KA24DE is a damn strong engine..it is an iron block and can handle tons of hp.

Only problem is that its rough..but that adds to the character. :)

There is the F-Max kit..I belive its in ~$2600 range...about the price of a SR20DET..the thing with the SR swap is that prices always add up cuase u always find u need something that u have to buy tahts not included in the kit.

Check out Zilvia.net..click on forums those guys will be able to help you out more than me.

I've got a '95 SE. The engine definitely isn't the smoothest out there, but what do you expect from a truck engine. The cool thing about it is that it's got more torque than HP... Not many cars out there that are like that. As for reliability, I've >never< had a problem with mine (had it for about 4 years. Hm... reminds me I need a new car). I took it in to the dealer for the 60k, but otherwise, just did the easy regular maintenance myself. The only thing to watch out for is your tires. When they wear down, and it's a little wet, you can slide around. Everytime I took the right turn out of the car wash here, the combination of RWD and word and wet tires let the tail come around a bit. FUN!!! :)

Anyone here have any pics that show the difference between the coupe and fastback? I've been looking for a while.

Anyway, I guess I'm looking for a '93 w/ a KD24E engine. (It'd be sweet if it were turbo charged though)

you might want to try getting ahold of gregshin, He probably knows more about 240's and nissans in general than anyone else I know.

The '91-'93 S13 come in two forms..coupe and fastback. In my opinion the fastback looks better. Btw, fastback is basically a hatchback.
In '94 S13s were only sold in NA as convertibles. They are pretty rare.

I have a '95 myself and I love it. Its a bit more refined than the S13, its quieter and has a luxorious interior. It handles just as good as a S13 and is just as fast. The styling is a little quirky..but I like it...nothing else out there that looks like it.

I'll try to host pics for it.

EDIT:

Oh yeah..the '89-'90 S13s had a KA24E which is a SOCH 2.4L 4-cyl that made 140hp and 150tq <something like that> The '91+ has a KA24DE which is DOHC and makes 155hp and 160tq. Just enough for the car to be fun and not to fast.

About driving in the rain, it really depends on your tires. My sumer tires are really all-seasons <came with the car> and they are Michelin MXV4+ 205/55R16 and are great in the rain and slush. My winter tires are Nokian Hak1 195/60/R15 and they are great in snow.

I AM HERE NOW!!! what's this a thread about my car? not too many threads in AT about my beloved car :)
thanks for the complement rallispec. I've own 2 240sx's in my life so far. A 1991 S13 fastback and 1998 S14 SE. I loved the 240 so much i wanted one again. I've driven a 1994 Maxima and a 2001 accord coupe for my daily driver...and NONE of them has the fun factor of the 240.

Once you own a 240 you will realize what a gem you have...how many cars out there weigh only 2700lbs and have rear wheel drive with AC, stereo, and LSD, etc? There are lots of things you can do to that car...i strongly suggest you look at this month's issue of Sport Compact Car on how to build a japanese version of the 240sx. Ever since that issue came out...i've had 2 offers driving in a traffic jam with people asking me to sell my car. I'll stop here...please feel free to ask me any questions on 240's on AIM name frank and greg. here are pics of my car below :D

Pics of my car scroll a bit to see it.
