We're comparing 4 cylinder motors.

Plus the RB is iron block. 6cyl iron totally changes the dynamics of the car vs an SR20.

The SR is epic. There's no need to go an RB unless you want like 800hp.

Where in the discussion was it only about the 4 cylinders? We're just discussing Nissan engines that are easy swaps. The RB25 is a very different motor from the SR20 but in a good way. It can handle more power on the stock block, it has a lot more torque, and much better response. RB26 is too expensive. CA18 is too low on power. KA24 is very reliable but not an easy swap. I think the RB25 wins overall.

It's not very hard. And they're not "too heavy", just heavier. But whatever. If you prefer to get a much inferior engine that also costs more because of some convenience what can I say.

You use the right tool for the right job.

Not that many people swap in RB's. If it was so good they'd all do.

Never said they all did. The SR20 is the most popular swap for the S13, followed by the RB25. And yes, it's much inferior, in many aspects. In reliability it's inferior, in torque it's inferior, in stock and potential power output it's inferior, in cost it's inferior, and in awesomeness it's also inferior. It's better in convenience, though. I think it'd be a better choice to take more time putting in the RB25 since it means at the end it's gonna be better.

It's not going to better unless you're chasing 600hp+.

The SR is more reliable than the RB. The SR's stock bottom end is good for near 600hp. It's lighter.

If you want a nice streetable 300kw then the SR wins hands down. You dont need the extra hastle and weight of the RB.

It's going to be better if you actually care a bit about torque, which the SR20 produces very little of. And the SR20 isn't more reliable. One of its main drawbacks is the aluminum block.

With the RB25 you'll be able to produce more HP and TQ with otherwise same parts and be putting less stress on the engine. Yeah, the SR20 is somewhat lighter and easier to install, but the RB25 costs less and is a much better engine overall. There's no replacement for displacement.

FFS. It doesn't have that much more torque. It's on .5L larger.

And the little bit extra you get isn't worth the extra weight and fucked up balance.

LOL. Perhaps you forgot that "only" 0.5L larger in this case means an increase of 25% in displacement. Torque on the RB25 is plentiful and the engine response is better. If you decide to do upgrades they'll put less stress on the engine, not to mention you'll get more HP and TQ out of them.

It's not "a little bit extra". It's a much better engine fundamentally. Swapping an RB25 to an S13 won't "fuck the balance". If it did, it wouldn't be such a popular swap, even if the SR20 is even more popular. What amounts as to why the SR20 is a more popular swap is because it's more convenient. I don't think some convenience is worth spending more on an engine that's less reliable when pushed, has a lot less torque, and from which you'll get less out of upgrades.

But whatever. We're gonna have to agree to disagree, as this doesn't seem to be going anywhere.
 
Not sure why the SR would fail smog, jap emission laws are pretty tight.

The first time I smogged my old Infiniti G20 it failed by 15 ppm NOX. I replaced the plugs, wires and o2 sensor, still failed by 5 ppm.
Turns out the cat-con was completely burned out (the car was 15 years old at the time, with the original cat).
Replaced it and passed smog with flying colors.

Most people would take an SR20 S platform car over and RB25 one.

Japs especially. The whole bigger is better mentallity is an American thing. Power to weight is what you're after.
