Someone bought my beater with a blown head gasket. The guy emailed me today and said he replaced the motor he got from japan. It is turbo. Do you guys know what kind of motor would that be? My car was a 92 240sx. How much do you guys think he spent on that project?

Might be a glow in the dark engine...? (sorry had to) 🙂

Think the 240sx turbo`s were kinda rare...? I used to back around 1992 work for a Nissan dealer and dont remember even seeing one...? Man those 300ZX turbo`s were sweet though back then...

Would you spend that kind of money on a 92 240sx? He bought my car for 700$ Why buy the motor from japan? Don't they have it here in the states?

He probably just means it's a jap import from a JDM car.

S13's are good cars if you chuck the peice of shit KA24 and put in an SR20DET like they were supposed to have.

If you could find a one cheap it would be a quick car, or a nice drift machine if you're into that.

No such thing as a factory 240SX.

Silvia's and 200SX's had turbo options though.

KA24, KA25, whatever it takes.

Your car... or was... is very popular with the 'DORIFTO' crowd.

Yep. The SR20DET is a 2 liter engine that never was available in the US. It was installed in the 180sx and Silvia in Japan.
The KA24 that is available in the US 240sx is a truck engine. It gets the job done and is very reliable. My car is getting close to 250k miles and still runs like a champ although it eats more oil now. I should also add that I've starved the engine for oil many many times to the point it started clanging. Once I added more oil, it went back to its purring self.

I didn't think ka24 was a piece of shit. I got 200000 miles on it.

How do you guys smog a sr20dT ? Too much hassle just to drive with a new motor plus have to change the tranny right?

You would have to know 'that guy' for the car to pass smog.

It's a POS from a performance perspective. Like the guy said above, it's a truck motor.

Not sure why the SR would fail smog, jap emission laws are pretty tight.

An SR should bolt right in, as S13's came with them in Japan/Europe. Once you get the SR in it's a peice of cake to make power.

He got one of these, in order of from most likely to least:

SR20DET, RB25DET, CA18DET, RB20DET, RB26DETT.

$2000-3500 for the SR20 depending on condition and car from which it was taken out of (Silvia S13, S14, or S15), which also affects stock power output. S14 came with 210HP stock and S15 with 250HP stock.

For the RB25DET it's largely the same story, with similar variations. There's the vanilla engine which was in the R33 GTS-T, and the more powerful NEO variation found on the R34 GTS-T. They go from $1500-2500 and are probably the best compromise because they produce a lot of torque and have great response, though the SR20 has proved to be a bit more popular.

The CA18DET, well, it's an I4 version of the RB26. Some prefer it to the SR20 due to its cast iron block instead of the aluminum block of the SR20 and its lower price. Power output for these is pretty low, though. These are very low at just $900-1200.

The others I won't mention because I see it very unlikely for him to have bought them.
