Do the Soul Matching Cost Reduction special effects stack? Because I have a helmet with 80% Soul Matching Cost Reduction and a sword with 70% Soul Matching Cost Reduction. I mean if those stack together that's a 94% Soul Matching Cost Reduction (0.2*0.3 = 0.06). But if they don't I'd like to use this sword as a material to pass on one of the transferable special effects (Strong Attack Life Drain in this case) to a better sword I have.

Nevermind, reading a bit more I see Soul Matching Cost Reduction isn't a passive bonus that could be stacked. It's a bonus when you soul match using the specific item.

What do you do in this game if you get to somewhere you're not ready for at all and you're out of those branches that let you leave a level? I have fought this one samurai like 50 times and have only ever gotten him to about 30% health (I refuse to blow through all my elixirs for a guy I'm not confident in killing). I used one of the branches to escape but I only have one left now. This is a horrific system. If I find some boss I can't kill in Dark Souls I can still go back and try to upgrade my weapons or my armor or play other parts of the game to level up a bit. I'm not stuck fighting the same guy over and over.

I'm very tempted to just take this into Gamestop and get my $22 in trade credit. If they still had NieR Automata for $45 like they did last week I would have probably done just that today, but since there isn't a good price on NieR right now I'll probably stick with Nioh for a while longer. I like challenging games but this is ridiculous if I'm going to end up stuck in the same boss fight over and over because I went in there with the wrong weapon, the wrong armor, not enough of item X, etc.

himorogi fragment is the unlimited one and sends you to the map while losing your amrita. himorogi branch does the same but keeps your amrita

harakari sword sends you back to last shrine while losing your amrita. travel amulet sends you back while keeping amrita

How are the RPG elements in this game? I finished up a third playthrough of Horizon and want to play another action RPG. How does this game compare to Horizon? Does it have a decent story line or is it all button mashing like a Gaiden game?

I haven't played Horizon but it doesn't look like they are comparable. These Dark Souls type games are a genre of their own imo, hard to really call them RPGs. For me it's about the gameplay and challenge, I couldn't tell you anything about the stories

The story is meh.

It's an action rpg in a Souls game sense.

It's combat is better than Souls imo, as it is closer to Gaiden than a Souls game is since it has more depth to combat, but it's not a Gaiden combat clone by any means. "Button mashing" will lead to your very, very quick death. And the good Ninja Gaiden games (Black and some of 2) are not button mashing. :O

Nioh is absolutely nothing like Horizon Zero Dawn. I don't even pay attention to the story. I don't read any of it or watch the cutscenes, as it feels stupid being a white guy in a game about samurais taking place in seventeenth century Japan. But the action is great. It plays a lot different from Dark Souls and once I stopped trying to play it like Dark Souls I really started to love the game. It feels like it has a big spike in difficulty mid game, though that could have also been because I had a pretty unbalanced build by midgame.

Have you played Sigma? If so, what do you think of Sigma vs Black? I heard Sigma has some filler missions tacked on but otherwise am I missing anything playing Sigma instead of Black? I bought Sigma for my PS3 but haven't played it yet, but I have a 360 so I could get Black too.

Sigma gets filler missions with other characters, as you said. It also gets a new weapon (dual swords). The end game bonus short missions (forget what they are called) are also better in Black, imo. There's some other subtle changes that aren't worth worrying about.

Just get whatever is cheaper or more convenient for you to play.

I saw this on an article for 10 games you should own for the PS4. I thought it would be like ninja gaiden or god of war but it seems it's more like the souls games.

I played Bloodborne and it was good but I never finished it. It's one of those games that you can't stop in the middle or you loose the style of gameplay and it takes a while to get into again.

This game is close to Ninja Gaiden than Dark Souls IMO. It also has a ton of grinding as well. I like it and I just came back after a couple months and I could jump right back in.

I watched a few videos and the only thing that reminded me of souls is the combat style a little plus the collection of points to level up. Is there a demo available? I may just go rent it from Redbox to get an idea.

I finished Nioh last night. I don't think I liked it enough to buy the DLC, which I only get for games I really love (Witcher 3 and Bloodborne, for example). But I'd still rate it about 8.7/10. Not quite a must play but definitely a game that's worth the $40 MSRP it will be selling at June 9th-16th. It's got some really cool combat, especially matching magic and ninja skills with the samurai stuff. It kind of reminds me of Bloodborne in that some of the bosses will have easy Achilles heels but would be nightmares to deal with otherwise. For example, there is one ninja who turns into a bird and is fast even if you hit him with a sloth talisman, but if you hit him with a shuriken or a rock when he dives to attack you (as a bird) it knocks him to the ground so you can jab your sword in his gut. I did skip the final 3 optional missions, since they require fighting two bosses at once and are really difficult: like fighting two Ornstein's with Smough's size and power.

But I enjoyed Nioh enough that I'm pretty excited to play Ninja Gaiden Sigma (I can't believe that game was only $7 at Gamestop).

For $40 I think I'll pick it up and play it some random day. I saw it for $44 used on Amazon. But if it's going to be on sale now, then that's good. I never finished Bloodborne because I lost my momentum in that game once I stopped.

Do you know if the $40 deal is only if you order on the PlayStation store?

Nah, $40 is the MSRP for June 9th-17th so it should be that price everywhere. Here is the official ad:

Gonna pick this up later today if the $40 comes up. Best buy is still showing $60. I'll have to check the psn store when I get home.

It's $40 now at Best Buy. Also $40 at the PS Store if you prefer digital. They usually start their sales at 8-9 AM PST.

Are you guys playing this in action or movie mode? Not sure which would be best for a 4k TV and the PS4 pro.

If action mode makes it easier to play in terms of movement, maybe that's better.

But I've seen some videos and the movie mode does look better.

I played it on action mode on a regular PS4 + 1080p TV. A game with action like this is going to be a lot better at 60 fps IMO. I never even bothered with movie mode on a game with such fast paced action even though action mode drops to 720p a lot of the time on the base PS4.
