Nintendo's Satoru Iwata dies aged 55

Japanese video game maker Nintendo has said its chief executive Satoru Iwata has died of cancer at the age of 55.

The Kyoto-based company released a brief statement saying that Iwata passed away on Saturday.

Iwata underwent surgery last year and had resumed his duties after a brief period of recovery.

He is considered the leading figure behind Nintendo's successful turnaround after he joined the company in the year 2000.

More importantly, Nintendo characters. Iwata was president of Nintendo since 2002.

Miyamoto definitely didn't make Pikachu.

I don't see how that picture implies that he created those characters. He was president of Nintendo for a long time -- through some of the company's biggest successes, and some of the biggest failures.
