For me, Nintendo hardware is just Mario Kart hardware.

Zelda has gone in a strange direction. Metroid has pretty much fallen off the face of the earth (Other M pushed it off). Mario Galaxy 1 & 2 are the last great Mario games. The upcoming Star Fox game looks like a Gamecube game.

Their next "gen" hardware will have to wow me. Otherwise, I'll skip it.

They don't get much 3rd party support either which really hurts too. Nintendo would need sweeping changes to the way they run their console division as a whole to make a dent in the North American market today.

The wii u tablet is garbage and one of Nintendo's worst mistakes. Not only does it at $80+ to the price for no necessary functions, but the attempt to hamstring it into the Star Fox game has delayed that game because aiming sucks. Also, no couch multiplayer, which was the best thing for star fox 64, because you aim with the stupid tablet

While it's true that the Wii U Gamepad wasn't used often for gameplay in most Wii U games.... It was still capable of allowing you to play most Wii U games on the Gamepad at a level of latency similar to an average LCD. Literally 1/3rd - 1/5th the latency of PS4 to Vita remote play.

Which would have been awesome in 1998 when the family only had one TV so my sister and I fought over who got to use it.

In 2015 when Wal Mart has $90 flatscreens that feature has little value (less than $90 as the flatscreen can also be used to placate them with Netflix shows).

Unless, of course, you're wanting to play in the same room as people watching TV. Or, for example, you could play Xbox One while someone else plays the Wii U and you guys just hang out.

Rather play something together. What you suggest is like a family sitting at dinner and everyone is on their phone.

Well, not quite. For example, got to my sister's, and they were in the middle of a show on Netflix still. I'll pass on the cop drama crap she's watching, so I can fire up the Wii U tablet and play my game until the show finishes. Alternatively, I guess I could unplug the Wii U, take it into her and her husband's bedroom, and play it in there for 20 minutes, then drag it back out...

Which again would be an awesome benefit in 1998. In 2015 that use case is completely covered by mobile devices for most people.

Yeah, my phone plays Nintendo games really well.

Well, this thread is a good example on why Nintendo shouldn't have included the Gamepad. I think it's pretty useful, but like the Kinect, mileage varies on opinions greatly....

So is the tablet controller.

It's not even close to the same. The tablet controller buttons and d-pad are fine. Not as good as the pro controller obviously but infinitely better than trying to use touch screen controls on a smart phone.

It's not an achievement to be better than touchscreen controls.

Are you arguing just to argue? I can't imagine anyone choosing to play (for example) Earthbound on their phone over the Wii U Tablet, which is basically what poofyhairguy is saying. It's a cool feature of the Wii U, it's ok to admit that even if you dislike the console or tablet in general.

No, I'd play via a XB1 controller on my PC. It's also not exactly what he was saying, he was being sarcastic in response to another sarcastic remark.

For the record I will never pay money to play a 20 year old game. The benefit of even doing it on your phone at all is you can play it more than 15 feet away from the console. The range on the WiiU tablet is horrible.

Not really sure why the Wii U gets so much hate. As a primary computer gamer - its the only one of the new gen consoles that even interested me. There are hardly any games for the Xbone or PS4 that I want to play that I can't already play on my PC.

What Nintendo has going for it is that its exclusives are actually fun, there are a lot of them, and I can't get them for the PC. The controller is great for playing games in the other room when the lady wants the big screen.

How long has the system been out? Maybe 3 years and they are working on a new system already. That's why it gets no love from me.

I'd love to get a Wii and play Mario party, Mario maker and donkey Kong but the system isnt cheap and a new one is coming out.

The context of the discussion was sitting in the living room with someone else that is watching TV. So you'll drag your PC out to the living room and set it up on the coffee table to play an emulator while someone else uses the TV? To each his own I guess.

I play Xbox One much more than my Wii U right now, but I still love my Wii U. Both consoles have completely different kinds of games, and I'm perfectly fine with that. They complement each other. Some people want the Wii U to be an xbox/playstation clone.

Really wish they would just make a straight up sequel to Star Fox64 without all the hijinx and reinventing of the wheel. Give me a god damn rail shooter with regular controller controls damnit!!

"I don't get why not every likes the Wii U because I like it."

We're not all you. I mean, I like my Wii U, but its library is lacking and networked gaming experiences just aren't as good as the competition. I think it's really generous to say that the Wii U has "a lot" of exclusives, unless you're going to acknowledge the same for the other platforms. That you're not a fan of Halo, Forza, Sunset Overdrive, MLB: The Show, Bloodborne, and the rest of the stuff the other consoles offer, that doesn't make them non-existent.

No and that was the point made before. This mattered when there was only one tv in the house and they were expensive. Now you can buy a tv for under $100 and people have multiples in the house so you should just hook the console up to a tv nobody is gonna use for tv.

As for what I said, if I want to play an old game I'll go in my game room and use my PC. I don't fight over the tv use.
