Bought one a while back, very good cable.

Don't why they call it "HD" cable though, last I check, 480p aren't consider HD.

It is lame marketing, but I guess they can get away with it because component cables in general can carry an HD signal to an HDTV, even though the Wii doesn't do HD.

I updated the thread title to avoid misleading folks. This will not give you HD resolutions from your Wii; I merely copied the description from the product page.

480P is consider HD. I know one does anymore, but the orginal term was 480p, 720p and 1080i was the HD standards.

480P is considered enhanced-definition television (EDTV).
I can't recall 480P ever being called HD. If you really want original:
Historically, the term high-definition television was used to refer to television standards developed in the late 1930s to replace the early experimental mechanically-scanned systems that ranged from 15 lines to about 220 lines of resolution.

So, how much of a difference does this cable make? I just bought a Wii last weekend, but havent even been able to hook it up to my HDTV yet (too busy, I'm moving soon)

You mean the difference between the component and composite cable? Or the difference among different brands of component cables?

A quick google search would give you plenty of comparison pics:

Honestly, if you've got a TV with available component inputs, you shouldn't hesitate to buy component cables for your Wii.

So wait... Even though I don't own an HDTV my crt trinitron with component output would be worth the investment in the component cables?

It would definitely help(especially compared to composite)...if you were using S-video the difference wouldn't be that great.

In regards to the advantage of using the cable to get 480P over 480i or are you asking if one can tell a difference between 480P and HD (720 and above)?

was asking if component vs. composite made a difference for the wii, but the screenshot comparisons other have posted have convinced me :)

It does make a different for me. I'm using the Westinghouse LVM-37w3 monitor, and admittedly this monitor is sub par when come to to handling Standard Definition sources, so going from 480i to 480p makes things look much clearer.

I run my Wii on an Infocus 4805 (480P resoultion) front projector at around 80"s diagonal picture. Initially I had it setup with the standard Composite cable and it looked OK, nothing earth shattering. I bought the component cable and at first regretted it. The picture was much much sharper with the component cables to the point that the softness from the composite cable actually helped the pixelation. This may also have been helped by the built in scaler on the composite input of the projector. I did choose to keep the component cables and still run them.

Long story short. The component cables make a huge difference on a big screen, it is a much sharper picture and if you don't mind pixelation you will definately prefer them...

Heck, at this price shipped it is definately worth it.
