this is only a rumour, same as the "microsoft buys rare" was just a romour.

sega and nintendo already have a very good relationship so i don't think that nintendo buying them is that far fetched.
not sure about capcom but you know how the japanese fell towards microsoft...

Actually I thought it was Microsoft who was going to buy Sega and Nintendo...capcom. If any of them ever buys EA...then god help us all.

It should also be noted that the report linked is for Nintendo of America. Nintendo of Japan is doing even better than NoA, due to the lack of competition from the Xbox, and better entrenchment against the PS2.

And Sega had a $133mil loss for the 2002 fiscal.

BrunoPuntzJones, Sega's fiscal year doesn't end till March 31, 2003. Where did you get a $133 Million loss for 2002 fiscal?

i don't think so... the letter head lists a japanese address and lists nintendo co ltd, not noa.

Yeah that's Nintendo, which includes NOA.

Directly from the report :p

BrunoPuntzJones, thanks for the link, but once you factor in other numbers [all the stuff that some of us, like myself don't always understand], Sega is currently still profitable for the fiscal year, which ends in March 31, 2003 :)

This would royally suck. Sega makes the best sports games. I would hate it if I had to play Sega sports games on Gamecube. Gamecube is the worst console for sports games. I don't really buy Capcom games anymore. Hasn't been a Capcom game that I have wanted in a long time. Please don't buy Sega. Arrrghhh. This better just be a rumour. Maybe Nintendo is upset that Sega won't be making anymore sports games for the Gamecube.

Thats a rumor and one that isnt likely.

Within the game industry, its known that one or a few of japan game developers will be merging, buying or being bought out by American companies sometime in the spring.

Considering MS and Sega have been close to terms to agreements before, I seriously doubt Nintendo will buy Nintendo, because MS can match them buck for buck, except MS can do it in cold hard american green backs, and not stock.

Its nothing but a rumor. Japanese game companies are looking for mergers and buyouts, but not with japanese companies at this point. Alot are looking for american parteners.

There's that, and for those of you that read the N news last week, or the week before (I can't remember, finals studying has made these last weeks a blur), Sega said that it was going to stop producing certain sports titles for the NGC, and only continue with MS and Sony...so as great as that would be, I just don't see it good for Sega or Nintendo to go through with this. Capcom, is more believable, as they've "recently" announced tons of titles solely for the NGC, but I dunno yet. If I don't see it on planetgamecube, nintendojo and ign, I'm not gonna believe it. ;)

if nintendo does buy sega and capcom, does that mean all sega and capcom games are gamecube exclusive? i can't imagine sega pulling out of the ps2 and xbox market, leaving ea sports to be the only decent sports game developer for those two systems. gamecube already has the rights to capcom's resident evil, right? besides the street fighter vs series and resident evil, are there any other big capcom games?

I doubt they will pull out if this merger occurs, it just means Nintendo will be getting the profits from the sports games on the other two systems.

would be interesting... keep sega as a wholly owned but independent developer, with a few choice hits solely for cube or gba and others for all platforms...

<<nintendo is screwed, Nintendo and Sega are both losing money, this will just compound the problem>>

Just becuase sales don't exceed the previous years' doesn't mean their loosing money.
