I started to hate nintendo when the release the gamecube in purple ONLY!!!! (They finally got to their senses and gave us different colors later)
The release was in purple and black. I bought a black one on the first day. Maybe you were meaning that it was purple when the originally announced it...but you said release and at release black existed

Nintendo is great. There not an all around package, but no system is right now for most people. Thats why I have a Gamecube and an Xbox. If you want to rant about something make it the PS2. Gamecube has Tales of Symphonia.(My cousin and I played that for 60+ hours in about 2 weeks.)

Nintendo's problem is that people buy Nintendos for their first party games... thats it. If given a choice between Cube, PS2, or Xbox... most people are going to go with PS2 or Xbox. Only a handful of great games does not make a sucessful system. That being said, I still love my first party nintendo titles

While it is true that first party games are N's strongpoint, they aren't that lacking in 3rd party support. They indeed have less than the other consoles, but I'd counter that there is a smaller proportion of throwaway games on the cube. As long as Nintendo continues their streak of producing excellent games alongside rock solid hardware (their consoles are virtually indestructible), they will continue having success. While their market share has declined, they continue to make money, and profitability is the ultimate key in the business (it's a shame that Sega couldn't remain profitable in the hardware business, as the Dreamcast was, and continues to remain an excellent console).
The one thing that I'm truly abhorred at is how many gamers have actually bought the marketing hype that Sony has built up over the years about their console being more 'mature' and a better platform overall. Every console has its strengths and weaknesses. It's a shame that so many gamers overlook Nintendo on false premises when they are probably the greatest value for the dollar in gaming at the moment (hard to argue with a $100 console which is very unlikely to break down, and a list of greatest hits games in the $20-$30 range which represents some of the best gaming around).

As to all those listing games as examples of Nintendo's awesomeness: Their main titles (mario, zelda, metroid, etc) were NOT meant to be 3D, and all the 3D versions I've played completely and utterly sucked. I haven't played all their 3D games, but I've played a few on the GC and many on the N64. Paper Mario didn't quite cut it either.
Nintendo is still an excellent company that makes innovative games, but they stoped catering to my tastes when they released the N64. Their releases prior to that will probably keep me a Nintendo fan forever, but I don't really like the direction they've been taking anytime recent. They're just applying their innovation in the wrong ways IMO.
Take a look at this list and try to tell me whether it is possible to say in any objective sense that Nintendo's 3D games have "completely and utterly sucked." Mind you, these are professional reviews. While I do value personal opinion, I seriously wonder how anyone can state that all of N's 3D games they have played have sucked, unless they played a mere one or two games which happened to not trip their trigger. If you just played Mario Sunshine and it didn't do it for you, fine. But Ocarina of Time has that perfect 10 for a reason (along with a tie for the highest user score too - minus an obscure neo geo pocket color game). Those scores speak volumes. Then look at the other games on that list. Perfect Dark was done by Rare, working very closely with N at the time (2nd party developer is the term I believe), Metroid Prime 2, Metroid Prime, Mario 64, Windwaker, etc.
All final fantasy's had a different story and everything else as well.
You know, I wonder that too. especially those real sports games, what changes do they make that warrant another 50 bucks?
Halo 2 is a continuation of the story...!
Metal Gear Solid is the only one that I think is really stupid as well, it always about the stupid metal gear, just destroy the freakin thing once and for all.

I'm not just ranting about the Gamecube, but everything nintendo does now. MarioDS64, the new mariokart DS, omg.. and now the original mario remade - it's ruining it.

They never hype anything besides Zelda and Mario and Resident Evil. Every Nintendo system must have a (might as well be ported) a version of mario party, zelda, mario kart.
What RPG elements are in Zelda?! it's more like an Action/adventure game.
Really, well let me see, I played Ocrina of time first... then a link to the past, and it was boring because it was the same game without an ocrina.. wow.
I have already ranted so much about the PS2. And then about the xbox. I must do it now for the GC. It was my last resort as they always release great hardware, I just feel that they lack a lot on the software side and some games are just too similar and because they keep rehashing and remaking just makes me sick to my stomach. I'm really pissed off about the crappy lineup of the DS as well. All the games suck.
Mario64 was the best platformer on the planet! but the remake to DS, sounded cool in the beginning, but then the graphics sucked compared to the console version and I didn't like the additions of the new players and everything. It tainted my game. The game was great and now it sucks. We don't need a port to every console. Just chill and create a new game. Dammit, fcking bastards cap it at ONE mario per console.
Not every console, I believe the PS2 is utter horse crap.
Haven't played it yet and I'm sure it's awsome, but 1 game doesn't make a console good.
There's much more than those 5. I just pointed out a few of the creme de la creme. The games that make a console worth owning on their individual merit. Rather than a collection of games, any single one of those justifies the purchase of a cube. The rest of your rant again carries little weight as it has been addressed above.
And comparing the handheld situation to the console situation simply can't be done. They are two entirely different markets with entirely different play conditions. If you want to discuss the DS, fine. But do it in another thread, as this thread has been almost entirely aimed at the home console market. Injecting arguments about the DS in just confuses the entire situation.
But honestly, as I've stated previously, your rant carries little weight. Did you even look at the link I previously posted which can be used as objective evidence that Ocarina of Time has the overall highest rating of any video game in the last 10 years or so (combining both professional review scores and user reviews)? The game wasn't rehash - it was revolutionary. Those early N64 games were revolutionary for bringing 3D gaming to the forefront and doing it remarkably well. Their influence has been absolutely huge.
The cube has built upon this tradition of innovation in game design. Those 5 games I listed are proof enough.
I'd suggest you give up your rant as almost everyone in this thread can see just how foolish you're making yourself look.

Nintendo is just not good anymore, face it people. Hey, I still have issues and issues of some of the first Nintendo Power magazines right about me on the shelf, but I had to move on after N64. Super Nintendo was great, and probably the greastest console ever made considering the time period, etc.. and I'm a huge FF fan but even their director had to leave Nintendo, that must say something about the direction their going. Playstation is always one-step ahead in my opinion and their release of PSP will eventually take over the DS and is a testiment of what I just wrote.
