I really want to play Mario Maker and New SMB 2 but I'll just wait for the emulator to mature.

One thing's for sure. If say Microsoft were ever able to buy them out, it would be a major coup. That would actually have made me seriously question getting a Playstation over an Xbox because as it is, it feels like an inferior unit for the same money.

But the Xbox One is usually sitting $50 cheaper, and often has more deals on top of it. Like, when I got my Halo 5 XB1, I got a $50 BB gift card, Black Ops 3, $40 off a controller, and a free $25 REQ pack for Halo 5.

Well that only matters if you happen to want the particular games with the deal. I know quite a few people who got a ps4 for the GTA5 and last of us bundle.

Not bad. I'd rather not fiddle with all the gift cards and gimmicks and stuff and just save the money.

But not bad.

I think the answer is exclusive to Nintendo. From the Miyamoto himself:

Going from the Wii U to a PS4 would be another 2X jump at the very minimum. It might be asking too much of Nintendo to develop for another console (or too much to expect it to be much better than Wii U games).

That is why I would honestly rather they get bought by Apple and develop for the new AppleTV instead. That is probably more their speed, maybe we can get more than a handful of games a year from Nintendo then.

That assumes a jump in fidelity is required. Good games are good games, and people will pay for them. What I and likely many others will not do is continue to buy every platform for each generation. I had a Wii but will never buy a Wii U. Had a PS3, have no intention of buying a PS4. I've chosen Xbox and that's where I'll stay.

I like Nintendo's first party games, but I'm not going to buy yet another box to attach to my TV just to play it. If Nintendo chooses to never publish to another company's console (which is certinaly their right) it may eventually spell the end for Nintendo, and that would be a shame.

The deal going on at the time was any new game, $59.99 or under, I think with the exception of Fallout 4 and Rise of the Tomb Raider (which I think had launched that week or the week before I got the console).

I've not seen a tempting PS4 bundle put together, except maybe he Vader console. I'd love a bundle for The Show, in the vein of last year's wood grain steelbook, but that franchise won't get enough love for that.

The only other PS4 bundle I could see suckering me in is a Kingdom Hearts one, but I similarly don't expect such a release. My cousin just got Arkham Knight and Battlefront with his.

Not bad. I'd rather not fiddle with all the gift cards and gimmicks and stuff and just save the money.

Not really sure what a "gimmick" is there. Also, since I shop almost exclusively at Best Buy (since their pricing is almost always the best, and they PM most everyone when they aren't), a $50 GC just meant a free game whenever I wanted. I'm still being irrationally slow with my PS3, playing KH. I'll get a PS4 someday, but I'm still waiting on games for the platform that interest me. God of War needs a full-series remaster to interest me, same with Killzone. Right now, all the PS4 will be offering me is The Show, Horizon, and Kingdom Hearts 2.8. I would MAYBE play the Uncharted series, same with the Ratchet & Clank remake, but that's basically the entire library of stuff the PS4 offers me.

But that's a solid price. That's roughly what I paid for my XB1 and all of the extras, by the time I traded in my old console.

Oh hey, VG_Addict.

To answer the question, no, I don't think that's what will happen. Not immediately. If The NX home console flops, then Nintendo will probably go handheld only, and still not develop games for other platforms. If their handheld consoles stop selling, then Nintendo will probably be forced to go third party. But they won't be the same Nintendo at that point. Shigeru Miyamoto would have left as the continued decline would likely be blamed on him (and he just might retire in the next few years anyways). They would downsize a lot before selling out, shutting down studios and laying off employees. Nintendo as we know it basically has to die before going third party -- could we really expect a third party Nintendo to make games that are as great as the ones they make to this day?
