Sad day to see Nintendo Power go. Though obsolete in modern times, you HAD to have that stuff back in the 80's. There was no internet, nor were there gamefaqs or google to visit whenever you hit a snag. Further compounding this situation was most of the games for the NES were rushed with extremely poor translations, rendering most hints worthless.
The games didn't spell things out for you either, there were no graphic formations showing you were Link needs to stick a bomb like in Link to the Past. You just either had to "know" where to do that stuff, do a LOT of trial and error in a very tedious manner, or get some help from the power. If someone told me they figured out they needed to go to the left of some wall, select some lame crystal item in your inventory and kneel for 5 seconds before a tornado took them to another part of the game in Simon's Quest without the aid of "the power", I'd call that person a bald faced liar.
