Point me to a US store that has them (non-ebay). And the fact that I would have to exchange my gamecube. Which Nintendo, to their credit, does for free. But it takes like three weeks.

So, you can't just walk into a store and buy the cables, like I said. I am not sure what wal-mart having component cables for xbox and ps2 has anything to do with the gamecube. Unless you are saying that it is at a disadvantage because the cables are not widely available, in which case I agree with you.

And importing them costs the same (even less than most) as any of those ebay auctions. :)

I picked mine up from a Local Target store about 2 months back, I had never seen them instore until I was checking out games and they had ALL the game cube accessories 75% off on clearance. I also bought ALL 5 gamecube network adaptors for 7.50 each (and sold 3 on ebay for ~30-35$ each), 7 Wave bird controllers for 7.50 each (sold 6 on ebay for ~20$ each), and both the HD cables they had for 5.00 each and kept both. 8 player Mariokart with 2 Cubes hooked together ROCKS!!!!

Do not understimate Nintendo.
They are not competing with the Xbox or Playstation, and that is a major strength for them. So far, I think they've still got it for handhelds, too.
Their not being like their competition means they don't have to bleed themselves just to get by, even though it also means they take a few more risks.
