<< Besides the fact that the kernal will be stripped to bare bones features needed in the console environment, you'd be amazed how efficient the NT kernal is when it doesn't have to pump out a GUI and run 20+ processes simultaneously like it does on a desktop. >>

LOL, you obviously do not know anything about this, SMT has been used in the nintendo and DC for ages..

The NT kernel cannot be stripped you fool, it can only carry additions, in the case of the X-Box, a lot of additions... you obviously do not have a clue so why did you respond?

<< Tell me. How the hell does the GC having "specialized" hardware make it superior to the Xbox? >>

Well, if you take one good look at the HW, yo will see that the HW used in the game cube wa meant to do one thing, and do it well, if you look at the X-box, it just looks like the assembly of an old PC system, that is not specialized and not very good at gaming....

Man, even you have to understand this, either you use specified HW or geralized HW... the specialized will win every day of the week... claiming anything else would be plain stupid..

<< Its very mature and looks really cool. Not to mention Too Human, Duke Nukem Forever, Batman: Dark Tomorrow, Turok Evolution, Resident Evil 0, and Metroid >>

excuuuse me, but the evolution is the same as it ws on the PS1, no better graphics... sorry...

The X box is a lame PC, that is it, an old PC, with a composite (no not even s-vhs) interface that will make DVD look worse than simple s-vhs...

A great buy for the stupid microsoft followers...

Uh-huh. Who said it didn't?

Um, easy fella. Keep the name calling out of this discussion. Now explain to me why the kernal can't be stripped. The kernal is nothing more than low-level code. Of course it can be stripped and optimized. The desktop NT kernal has to handle numerous tasks that it won't have to do on the console. If the feature isn't needed, tell me why it can't be taken out to reduce code bloat?

<< it just looks like the assembly of an old PC system, that is not specialized and not very good at gaming.... >>

That's rediculous. The NV2a is a graphics processing unit designed for - imagine that - playing games! The CPU, well I'll give you that. The Pentium3 was not specifically designed with gamers in mind. To be fair though, the PowerPC derivitive in the GC is no better off. The sound proc in the Xbox is not available on the market and is being specifically designed for the Xbox, and its more powerful and flexible than the DSP in the GC.

The only advantage the GameCube has over the Xbox is the higher real world fill rate courtesy of the embedded ram.

You keep saying that the GameCube is more specialized and is thus superior. Apparently you know everything there is to know about console architecure, so explain to me why its better.

If that were true, MS's WinCE would've owned the handheld market 10 times over by now. Stripped down MS software is still bloated no matter how you put it

Ok, I can agree with that, but PCr makes it sound like the kernal itself will take up 10% of the system's resources. Bloated compared to built-from-the-ground-up embedded OS's? Yes, certainly. Compared to the standard NT kernal? Nah.

Using the kernal as an argumentative point why the Xbox is inferior is plain rediculous.

since im real busy i dont have time to do this just yet so im waiting on some stuff. while im a gc fan and not really interested in the xbox, i dont see how you are saying it's not as powerful. i can see your general idea as to why (basic pc parts), but the xbox is as powerful, if not more so than the gamecube (most people on both sides agree with this). while the gc will, imo have better games, the xbox can out do it graphics wise/power wise. ill get ya some hard numbers (although they dont mean much) of the hardware for each.

Actually knightbreed, i am apologizing to you in this thread...

But get this,

<< That's rediculous. The NV2a is a graphics processing unit designed for - imagine that - playing games! >>

Nope, it is not, it was originally designed to draw 3d graphical vectors for non illuminated sources or low illuminated sources together with a second GPU... i was involved in the Nvidia design, so i do know this...

A simple explanation why the kernel cannot be stripped, the frewhest source code lies in the outermost layers of the core... get it.. it is IMPOSSIBLE.. and so has been done already, so why speculate?

<< You keep saying that the GameCube is more specialized and is thus superior. Apparently you know everything there is to know about console architecure, so explain to me why its better. >>

No, i don't think so, it would be too much of a job, pay me for it, and i will explain... to me it is obvious, and to anyone who has any experience what so ever with HW it should be pretty clear... you are not one of them...

Regarding specialized HW compared to standardized HW, you should know this, it is not too hard to understand, if someone elses out there feels like explaining it, like Joohang, Adul (could probably do this) or anyone else, please do so...

otherwise i will be back later on...
