Nintendo DSi

I love my DS... if I were in the market to buy a new one today I'd go with a DSi, but considering that my DS has been working fine and dandy for a few years now, I don't see a compelling reason to spend the money just on an upgrade.

if i didnt have a ds i would get this one. but since i have a phat and a lite already i dont see the need to upgrade again.

My conspiracy theory on this:

The DSi is Nintendo's way of giving the DS essentially a price hike. It has very little hardware advantages, very little game development, and production costs are actually the same as the DS (if not cheaper). Slowly I suspect we'll see the DS Lite getting phased out for the DSi and there we go - the Nintendo handheld is now $170 instead of $120.

I'd grab a DS Lite, personally.

Very unlikely. They're trying to milk early adopters, nothing more. When the DSL gets phased out, this will drop in price.

The DSi is a step in the right direction of a cartridge-less portable gaming system. Download games, store on SD card, play. However, for now, there are no upgrades that will make my current playing of DS games any better. Hence, no reason for most to upgrade. Give me a new Metroid title and this will change.

The DSi is a nice system but it's WAY too expensive for what it is. It's currently going for an unbelievably $199 here in Canada, which is just for the hardware itself. $60 difference from the Lite. I'd only get it if they implemented a virtual console on it, like with the Wii. That would be sweet. I doubt Nintendo is going to go the same route as Sony is by having major titles for download. At least not anytime soon. I'd say if you don't have a DS, pick up the Lite. It will probably drop in price over the coming months as stores try to get rid of them.

Wow, the ability to d/l classic GB, GBA, and perhaps even NES and SNES games with the DS would be AWESOME! It might just convince me to upgrade from my DS Lite.

Yes, they just started downloadable DSi titles today. IMHO, that is the most significant upgrade with the DS. Moreso than the cheapo video camera. We'll have to see what kind of downloadable titles they can come up with the DSi.

I'm still not sure it is worth the $40 difference. I won't be buying one anytime soon.

I was really excited when I heard about it, now less excited. Not excited enough to immediately upgrade from my DS lite. If I was new to the market, i would get DSi though.

was somewhat excited about downloadable content but then i remembered i'd have to pay for it... and if some of the retro games are on the wii already, i really don't want to pay twice.

I think it's worthless personally. 2 shitty cameras and take away game boy advance compatibility? No thank you.

that market will die away eventually. nintendo is will no doubt bring out a virtual console for the DSi. They shoudl have seen it coming, but they are late to the game.

I'm still trying to understand why they didn't combine the wiipoints system w/ the dsi-ware stuff... makes no freaking sense.

I for one look forward to the DSi porn alerts on the local news affiliates...

Can you pm me which mod chip for $20?

The SD slot is a good thing. We'll probably have open source stuff (emulators, better media players, etc.) down the road. With my DSL I had to buy a CycloDS to get that stuff.

My 11 year old thinks its cool. So my guess it is to capture the "I am too young to buy it myself so I will bug the crap out of dad" demographic.

Saw about 10 of them at a local target last night... from what I heard initially they would be as hard to find as when the Wii first hit store shelves.

It would be nice if Nintendo would eventually let you transfer your Wii VC games over to the DSi for play on the go. Would think about getting one in that case.

It supports WPA, but games made before the DSi only work if you use WEP.

Nothing in the DSi makes me want to give up my DS lite and make the leap.

If you had no DS to begin with, however, I could perhaps see buying a DSi...

I would still likely just buy a DS lite though.

They sure make it hard enough to find!
