I haven't seen any real up-to-date sales numbers, but as of the end of June, more DS units had been sold in the US than PSPs. Its probably pretty close currently. In Japan, DS is hammering the PSP, its not even close. So I don't think its fair to say the PSP is kicking its butt.

Its kind of misleading saying there is a $20 price drop when they just drop the bundled game.

I'm actually thinking of picking up a DS - when the online network goes live, sounds like a fun thing to have.

How much longer has the DS been on the market though?

Here's the console sales numbers for the last week of July for JAPAN:

DS ? 44,518 Sales
PS2 ? 33,705 Sales
PSP ? 20,031 Sales
GBASP ? 12,555 Sales
GC ? 3,147 Sales
GBA - 530 Sales
Xbox - 163 Sales

heh, go xbox!

I can't find any recent figures at all regarding USA data.

So... They dropped $20 off the price and cut the bundled game, which retails for $30. Sounds like a price increase to me 😛

the bundled game was just the metroid demo, right?

anyway, both the psp and the ds have yet to release a killer app, though i must say, the ds has better games right now than the psp.

The article says that they will no longer be bundling Super Mario 64 DS. Which is $30 retail.

Nintendo DS still exist?? 😛

I do agree, PSP is totally kicking its but.

Still 129 us is still too expensive for the DS.

Sony fanboys ftw. DS is outselling PSP in every country.

I just drop 129$ and 29$ for DS and Nintendogs... suppose to be a present for my nephew...

I guess i have to buy another set... since i open it.....

edit, the puppy actually responded to my voice command..... does PSP comes with a mic?

DS is outselling the PSP and mario kart w/ wifi internet play comes out in a month 😀 granted they are pretty even.

when the ps2 drops to 99 bucks to compete with the 360, sony will cannabalize there psp sales somewhat.

i unfortunately bought a PSP at launch, even though the PSP hasnt failed i think we can all agree sony expected to have done much much better by now.

nintendogs, meteos, castlevania, mario kart, kirby, animal crossing online ... lots of fun games out/out soon.

wtf?

The PS2 is a HOME system it won't compete with the PSP 'that' much at all imo.

When GTA comes out that will kick start the PSP sales. For me the killer app is GT4m, SF and Tekken 😀
